Alpenhof Hotel

We got upgraded to remodeled room. It was beautiful. One of the best. We could see the Matterhorn from our balcony. Good air condition. Good breakfast. Hotel bar staff nice and provided ice. Great sauna and steam room included. Note, swimsuits not allowed so something for some is to consider. Super clean. Free shuttle to train station. Would absolutely stay again. Was not super expensive for Swiss standards.

From a very prompt pick up request from the train station in an electric mini bus to the swift check out everything was top notch. This hoteliers family are very successful and have thought of absolutely everything to made our stay extremely comfortable and relaxing putting a smile on our faces. Breakfasts and dinner were outstanding with food, drinks, service and beautiful wooden fixtures and fittings. They surprised me with a decorated table and warm birthday wishes. The control panel for separate lighting zones mirror and towel heater, modern shower and double sink areas were as stylish as the main area of the room. Balcony view was special overlooking the fast flowing river and Zermatt’s wooden chalet type buildings. Very comfortable bed gave good nights’ rest every time. Good coffee and tea in the room. Chocolates at bedtime was thoughtful, as well as rucksack to hire or buy. Plentiful choices of spa treatments. Location is easy for walking to shops, restaurants, tourist office and trains and is near the Bergbahnen for Matterhorn Alpine Crossing. Tv displays Matterhorn’s current temperature and wind speed at 3883 metres. Plush bathrobes were so comfy I spent a lot of time wearing one.

Staying at this family-owned hotel was the best experience by far of anywhere we stayed in Switzerland. We truly cannot say enough about the incredible staff who make you feel like family the moment you enter and go above and beyond in every way. The rooms were also large, super clean and filled with amenities. Even a backpack hanging on your door that you could use for daily hiking trips; they literally thought of everything. The decor was indicative of the region and the Valais black-nosed adorable sheep. Sooo cozy and inviting! Even sheepskin and wool blankets on the outdoor chairs on the balcony. We ate at their outside patio for snacks and drinks, as well as the amazing breakfast buffet, and dinner at one of their family owned restaurants (Julen) which was superb. The chef changes the menus daily and uses only the freshest ingredients. They raise their own cows and sheep, and you can even go visit and cuddle with their sheep. The shepherd Paul is the grandson of the original owner. We also enjoyed the sauna and outdoor hot tub. We would have preferred for it to be open a little past 8 PM but otherwise it was perfect. I cannot wait to come back in the winter and ski here and cannot think of staying anywhere else. I highly recommend.
