staff were appallingly rude. cleaners did not clean the rooms at all, there was a mix up when booking rooms so we had to pay extra when we got there which we had no issue with but from then on our staff treated us horribly, when my dad wanted water he went to the bar (which in a hotel rated this highly you think would be fine) the rude man behind bar told him to go into breakfast room which he then got told off for doing. furthermore ruined our final meal there by dragging my parents out to pay the bill. genuinely the most appalling customer service ever, even managed to make my ten year old brother feel uncomfortable which is insane. would not reccomend unless you like snobby staff and a waste of your money. there was a lovely blonde waitress in the restaurant though who was the only person who treated us (a family with three children) kindly the entire stay.

This is a lovely hotel in Zermatt. Food is excellent and our room had a nice balcony with a wonderful view of the Matterhorn. The spa with a nice swimming pool was a great addition. We found the service attentive and friendly. The hotel is at walking distance to the train station and to the main attractions in Zermatt. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

The Alpen Resort Hotel is centrally located. Not far from the train station and right on the main street of Zermatt. The house is a four-star hotel, of which at least one star is undeserved. Due to the backpackers (Zermatt is a popular place for hiking) and the rather down-to-earth reception, the hotel has more of a cabin character than that of a resort. However, this impression is quickly changed by the groups of friendly Asians (e.g., from South Korea), who cheerfully marched in every afternoon, populated the restaurant in the evening from 7 PM, and enjoyed the lovely breakfast buffet starting at 7 AM. Our room was in an annex of the hotel on the first floor without an elevator, room 722 (we were asked), but it had the optimal view from the terrace: we saw the Matterhorn in all its size and beauty. Lucky with the weather. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and was always promptly replenished. The staff was consistently friendly and attentive, which was very pleasant. In terms of pricing, the hotel (which has 4 stars) is rather high for what is offered. We booked two hotels of that category through an agency: Average price 355€. Switzerland is notoriously expensive in the gastronomy sector. The Alpine Resort, however, is particularly so. For example, a rather modest dinner at the Alpine Resort: 2 salads from the buffet 28 CHF, 2 Walliser Flammkuchen (not recommended, as they were weak) 52 CHF, 1 water 5 CHF, 1 bottle of Dole Blanche (the cheapest wine on the menu) 53 CHF. With tip (12 CHF) together 150 CHF. For Europeans about 165 €. Conclusion: The Alpine Resort is more rustic than four-star appropriate. On the other hand, we sometimes felt like we were on our trip to Japan because of the many Asian groups. Next time, when we do the Bernina and Glacier trip again, we would probably book elsewhere.
