HOTEL MATTHIOL

I had the most wonderful stay and genuinely didn’t want to leave. From start to finish, everything felt incredibly special, and the level of service was exceptional. A special thank you to Andrea at reception, who gave me such a warm welcome when I arrived. She was so friendly and personable, and immediately made me feel completely at ease. Mareike deserves a very special mention for the beautiful touches she arranged for my birthday. I was so touched by how thoughtful everything was. It was clear that she had put real care into making the occasion feel special, and those little details made my birthday stay even more memorable. Last but not least, Daniele at the restaurant was absolutely wonderful. He was always so attentive and genuinely friendly, and somehow remembered all the little things I preferred without me having to ask. He knew I loved sitting outside and was always so thoughtful about making sure I was comfortable and enjoying myself. That kind of attention to detail is what makes a stay feel truly personal. The hotel itself is beautiful, but what really sets it apart is the people. There was such a genuine warmth throughout my stay, while still feeling incredibly refined and luxurious. I came to Zermatt for a special birthday trip, and the hotel made it feel even more special than I could have hoped. I left feeling incredibly well looked after, with some very lovely memories that I’ll genuinely treasure. Thank you to the whole team, and especially Andrea, Mareike and Daniele, for making my stay so wonderful. I would absolutely love to return.

Hotel located a good 1/2 hour walk from the train station in a quiet area. Smiling welcome, nice premises, we had a large room, with a nice framework but with small windows very low so no view. However, the rooms have communication possibilities and therefore this is at the expense of insulation. Flushing sounds, slamming doors, dialogue between people... The other weakness remains catering: even if prices are at the general level of Zermatt, unfortunately quality and quantity are not there. How can we explain that most of the restaurants in the surrounding area are practically full, where the hotel will only serve 2 or 3 tables?

We’ve stayed at Mattihol before and used to really enjoy it, but after our recent experience, we won’t be returning. We had an early train at 6:30 am, and since the hotel shuttle doesn’t run that early, they gave us a voucher for a taxi. Great—problem solved. Later, however, the receptionist asked for the voucher back, telling us we “wouldn’t need it.” We trusted that information. The next morning, we took the taxi as planned. At drop-off, the driver told us we had to pay—48 CHF for a two-minute ride. This was a complete surprise since we’d been told the voucher covered it. I contacted the hotel, expecting them to make this right. Instead, they first refused reimbursement, then later emailed saying I should personally call the taxi company to sort it out. That is not my responsibility—it was their mistake, and it left us feeling like we were being punished for having an early departure. To add to the frustration, the receptionist who mishandled the voucher seemed inattentive from the moment we arrived—asking where we were from, but not listening to our answers, and clearly not listening during training either. This experience soured what used to be one of our favorite hotels in Zermatt. Sadly, we won’t be staying here again.
