Hotel De La Paix Lausanne

This was our meeting place at the start of a guided tour of Switzerland. We arrived by train and decided to walk to the hotel. Our map app helpfully showed that the hotel was a 0.4 mile walk from the station, but it neglected to say that it was all uphill, and involved dragging our luggage up stairs. We would have been very much better off taking the metro from the train station to the Bessières stop. The hotel is a short downhill walk from there. The hotel provides transit passes to guests, so it might be worthwhile calling ahead to see if you can obtain a pass before arriving. Our room (411) was small and unremarkable. The window had a nice view over Lausanne, and had a mechanical shade to adjust incoming light. Friends staying in a second floor room had a balcony. The bathroom was clean and modern, but small. A single sink and almost no counter space. The hotel served a basic breakfast which was fine.

We traveled by train from Geneva. While distance wise it’s not far from the train station to the hotel it is uphill and on cobblestone! I would not advise walking like we did. Either taxi, bus or tram would be a better option. The room was very comfortable temperature wise. The bed was just okay, kind of firm and a thinner mattress. The bathroom was a dream with a bathtub and a shower with a rain shower head. If you care, no washcloths are at this hotel, so travel with one. A body/hair gel combo is the soap. Breakfast again was sufficient but not great option wise. Location was great. To get down to Ouchy you do need to use public transportation but it’s very easy. Beautiful walkable city full of young people.

Hotel is 10 minutes walk from the train station. It's a basic hotel, room is a reasonable size, has some storage space, no bar fridge, good airconditioning. The room & bathroom are very clean, not very modern. The bed & pillow were comfortable, room had a small balcony with a nice view. The breakfast was nice, had a selection of hot & cold food. There is free coffee in the foyer. The hotel is central to most attractions, no need for public transport. Make sure you ask the hotel for a discount card, this gives you free public transport & discounts on entry fees into attractions. Overall a good stay
