Wow Happy Daan

Wow Happy Daan is a 3-minute walk from exit 3 of Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT Station (an interchange between the Blue and Brown lines), making it very convenient to get around the city. I booked the deluxe 40 sqm room — it was spacious, very clean, and designed like a junior suite with a separate living area. The two bay windows let in some natural light and offer a bit of a street view. The decor is dated, but everything was properly maintained and worked well. I appreciated the powerful air conditioning — a necessity in the summer heat. The bathroom features a separate shower and tub, and a Japanese toilet. Water pressure and WiFi were acceptable. The coffee machine and filtered water dispenser in the lobby were much appreciated. My only complaints are: 1) there are only two pillows on the double bed; and 2) the front desk staff seemed quite transactional, lacking warmth and not particularly helpful. In contrast, the housekeeping ladies on my floor on 5 and 6 August were friendly and cheerful. Finally, note that check-out time is 11am, strictly no complimentary extension, they charge NT500 for every hour after 11am. In summary, I was pleased with my decision to stay here. This is a reliable, no-frills hotel — ideal for those who don’t spend much time in the hotel and rely on Taipei’s efficient public transport.

The room was large, the beds comfortable, air-conditioning was working well, bathrooms were clean and modern, good wifi service except that it seemed slow at night. The bed linen and towels are clean and house-keeping is done once a day. So, if you require a change during any other time, it might not be available. This is not a full service hotel. There is no food available on the premises except for free coffee in the lobby. It would be very helpful if, at least, a basic, continental breakfast were provided. Although there are restaurants nearby, it’s not always convenient to go out for a meal or find your preferred cuisine. I checked out about an hour later than the check out time and was charged TWD 500 – this was after I had informed the reception when I was going out at 9 am that I was ready to leave and that my room could be vacated. I returned at 12:00, an hour after the stipulated check out time, and was handed a bill of TWD 500. There might have been a misunderstanding on the part of the reservations staff, however, it did set me back by the said amount of cash at a time when a customer, at the end of his/her stay, might find it difficult to bear an additional, unexpected charge. This same rule made known to customers at the beginning of their stay, or better still at the time of booking, would help avoid such a situation.

DATE of STAY: 8/15-8/18 Location location location! My wife and I booked this hotel for her daughter and boyfriend for its unbeatable location. The hotel is clean and efficient and the staff is helpful and professional. There is an active construction site right next door so be advised. If you spend most of your time out of the hotel (EX: 9:00-18:00), it won’t really affect you. The price is competitive, especially for its location so definitely consider staying here while visiting Taipei.
