YOMI Hotel

We stayed on a Thursday night, having been in Taipei for a couple of days. Check-in was friendly, but perhaps a little brusque (though that may be cultural). The great news is that there's a brand new lift installed, so we didn't have to lug our suitcases up stairs! There are 9 floors, so this is a no-brainer. The king-bed rooms all face the street, so you will get some traffic noise if you have one of them, but the windows are fairly effective against it. It's just if you'd like to have some fresh air overnight, you'll also need good earplugs. We decided to move to a room at the back of the building which was much quieter, and had 2 beds! Both were clean and comfortable. Our bathroom had a single sized sauna which we found quirky for Taiwan's climate and from a space perspective. The bathtubs look more like tiled plunge pools. There's a massive TV, but there's only about 3 English channels (fair enough too btw!). We did get to watch the movie 'Along Came A Spider', so if you work at it, you can get some quality viewing in, albeit the background music seemed louder than the dialogue most of the time, but because we moved rooms, we realised this was a problem with the broadcast, not the TV. The basement is super quirky, but has some really useful features (e.g. the computer that I am currently typing this reivew on :) There's 5G wi-fi, board games, a couple of gaming consoles, dining tables and chairs and quite a few free eats and drinks (including hot chocolate!) This whitey sampled almost all of the snacks, which were very yummy, but I couldn't quite come at the 'floating brown egg soup' whose real name is braised tea eggs. Upon observation and reflection, this hotel is best suited to backpackers, and as we're nearly 60, it's time for us to leave it to the younger generation. Fun to see how the 'youth of today' live though :) P.S. As an asthmatic, the first, KING room we were given had a noticeable musty, mouldy smell and this was the reason for our move.

The second stay was renovated and more comfortable than before. The location was good and it was raining all the time during the trip, but because it was a street like a shopping street, it was only that choppy road that got rained. Word of mouth said that I was concerned about mold, but I think there are a few hotels of this level. If it's 5 stars and it's moldy, I have to grumble, but w There is a person who can speak Japanese, but I don't think that person will always be there, so it will be either basic English or Chinese. A mobile phone translation app is convenient. Breakfast was free when I stayed 10 years ago, but this time it wasn't, but there were many restaurants nearby, so I didn't have a problem. I hope it will be revived because Loulou fans were delicious. I want to stay when I come to Taipei again.

Take the 1819 bus from Taoyuan International Airport, get off at 'Kokuhama Hanten' and walk five to six minutes. It is also about a 5-minute walk from the MRT Ssanglian Station. Convenience stores (Famima, Seven) are close by, and within a 10-minute walk you can also find the 24-hour Carrefour Taipei Forest North branch and McDonald's. Facilities at the hotel include a free space in the basement where drinks (coffee, soy milk, milk, tea, etc.) and sweets are served free of charge. You can also eat what you take out. There is also a massage chair, which I used multiple times. The rooms are larger than comparable-price hotels near Taipei Station, complete with bidets and bathtubs, so I think it's a good idea to have a co-spa. I had no problem with the noise except that the guest in the next room was making a lot of noise late at night.
