Sapphire Hotel

OK for the price paid, but the rooms are not at all consistent with the photos. There is a swimming pool on the roof, but not a single deckchair to relax and sunbathe. The fridge in the room did not work and the hotel itself is dated. We didn't eat there.

Very nice hotel with lovely staff. We didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the food. It is very accessible in a decent location. 15 min walk to the water so would suggest using the boat to go around Bangkok as it’s only 16baht. Patpong nightmarket is a 20 min walk away and very enjoyable.

This hotel thoroughly perplexed me. I have stayed in many Bangkok hotels and none leave me somewhat confused. I like to get an understanding of a hotel, to come away understating what makes the hotel work and fit it in some sort of hotel experience category. But this hotel was unique in that it can’t be boxed. Sadly if anything the box would be labeled ‘Don’t ever stay in again’. I truly wanted to love this hotel. It’s not in the usual area of Bangkok that I stay in and I chose it specifically to be near to sights in the Silom area. But I am left wondering why this hotel simply doesn’t make an effort. So the room was fine and met the basic needs one would expect in any mid price level hotel. My view was not great but I’m ok with that. Low down in a building and you cant always expect a wonderful view so no real criticism there. But throughout the hotel the blue sapphire colour theme simply does not create a cosy welcoming environment. It is cold and not a colour one may associate with Thailand and as a colour theme throughout the hotel it felt remote and cold. Add in some dated imagery and art on the walls this hotel is screaming for a ‘make over’. This desire to be updated and simply loved continued when I hit the rooftop. There is a rooftop pool with great views, which is a key appeal and selling point. But the roof top pool and gym look so scruffy and tired. You get the feeling nobody cares about it. It was dirty and unkempt and what could be stunning simply looked neglected. This lack of care and neglect echoed throughout the hotel. Now the moment I truly realised this hotel doesn’t care was my tragic breakfast experience. I went down keen to enjoy that wonderful hotel moment where you savor the start of the day over a coffee, survey your fellow travellers and enjoy the excitement of foreign adventures and the keen sense of anticipation for the day ahead. But this was an experience very far from that. The room was dark, lights off with seats up on the tables. There were no other guests and no delicious buffet spread and the low-level chat and expected restaurant atmosphere. Then in the far corner I spotted a Thai lady asleep with her head on the table. She sprung up and motioned me to sit down without a word or smile. She returned a minute later with a ready-made plate of the most shocking breakfast, which she placed in front of me. The plate had a freezing cold rubbery sausage on it next to a small white bread sandwich and if I recall correctly a cold egg that must have been sat there for over an hour. She plonked this down and shuffled off back to sleep. I couldn’t eat this and was in a state of shock to be honest. It’s beyond awful and considering I was paying good money to stay here in a city that competes for guests. I simply couldn’t work out how they felt it justified offering such utterly terrible quality food and poor service. I don’t like to give a bad review as I appreciate businesses need support and especially after the pandemic. But in this case it feels like the management really don’t care. Sadly it is a hotel that is neglected and unloved. Its such a great location close to some wonderful sites and the infrastructure is there for improvement and as stated an entire make over. I am perplexed as to why it’s like this given the hotel competition and popularity of Bangkok as a destination. If I had paid a small fee to stay there I would align the poor quality with the low price but I had paid a decent amount and this of course made the whole experience worse and more confusing. I hope this hotel makes some huge changes that could really improve the experience for the paying guest. I am back in the Silom area in a few months and have found far more suitable hotels, which I will choose from.
