Union Tower

We stayed at this place in Feb,2013 for 3 days. It was very nice and worth the money.Its near to Sukhumvit, One of the happening places at bangkok. We hired a cab to go to many popular attractions at a reasonable price.Staff managed to talk in english and help us.

When I first saw the exterior of the building, it looked old/worn down. Inside the ground floor lobby, things were very bare, with new ceramic tile everywhere, and evidence of remodeling. The area around the elevators/reception showed even more signs of remodeling, with walls partially gone. These things had me really expecting the worst. However, once you get past the lobby, the building is actually quite nice. The bottom 3 floors are various business. There is a large open lobby on what is actually the 2nd floor of the building, with grand staircases spiraling up to the third floor. All of this has been remodeled and is bright and fresh. There are rooms/apartments on floors 4-13 (labelled in the elevator as 1-10, since the first 3 are labelled G, M, and L). While the building is older, the rooms are freshly painted and in good condition. They are large and airy, with tall ceilings. Bathrooms have been remodeled/re-tiled. On the roof there is a nice pool and garden area. There is also a fitness center. Transportation is very convenient as the building is 1/2 a block from Klong Thong Lor (Thong Lor pier-- for boat taxi's) and there are motorcycle taxi's directly across the street to take you to the nearest BTS (skytrain) station. There are also regular taxis passing by constantly. Altogether, this is a very good value for the money especially if someone will be visiting Bangkok for a couple of months.

We have stayed at Union Tower as residents two times now - for 3 months in 2009 and 1 month in March this year and it has been a great home for us - although when we first saw the exterior we were a little dubious. Fortunately first impressions aren't always right! Though we haven't stayed as hotel guests we have to agree with the first reviewers comments who wrote a very accurate description with great suggestions. A couple updates - the rooftop pool is still sparkling and beautiful as always. The "Embassy Suites" style interior of the building (with rooms surrounding an open core) has been renovated and is quite nice.There is no longer an internet cafe in the building but Wifi can be purchased at an hourly or monthly rate. There are also several internet/ gaming rooms close by outside. The restaurant still has drinks, snacks and ice cream but now only serves ready to eat meals which can be ordered and heated up. The eating options outside on Phetburi street remain tremendous with many yummy food stalls and various options that change throughout the course of the day (and night.) Transportation either by khlong boat, catching the previously mentioned red shuttle bus to Shukumvit or motorcycle taxis remains easy. The Bangkok airport train runs directly behind Union Tower and it is a short 3-5 minute taxi/motorcycle ride to either the Makkasan station to catch the Express or the Ramkhamhaeng station to catch the city line. This is super convenient if not traveling with a lot of luggage.
