Khaosan Holiday

My girlfriend and I arrived in Bangkok early in the morning after a bus ride from Krabi. Afterwards we went to Khao San Road for accommodation for a one night. Then we stumbled upon Khaosan Holiday Guest house. We were met with a friendly receptionist, and immediately booked a room (this was about 06:30 AM on a sunday) for one night. We made it sure that we wanted to stay until Monday. The receptionist checked the dates and assured us that the room was ours until Monday. The room was clean and we felt really comfortable. As tired as we were we went for a little sleep. We had a nice nap, until we suddenly woke up 5 hours later. We were awakened by the staff knocking on our door claiming we had to check out. I told them that we came here this morning and we had booked until Monday (this was around noon on Sunday). I tried to explain the situation to the (new) receptionist who clearly didn't give a s***. S/he couldn't care less, and only interrupted me when I started talking. Although I arrived a few hours ago, she claimed that it counted as one night and I had to check out. So in theory you could book a room at 11 AM for one night and then be forced to check out 1 hour later😂. It all ended with us paying 1,000 TBH for a 5 hour stay during the morning. I've stayed at plenty hotels all over Thailand and never experienced this. Truly impolite and amateurish.

We stayed for 3 nights in December. Hotel is close to Khaosan Road which is convenient if you’re partying and don’t mind very loud nights (loud, techno music plays until 4 am and you can hear it very clearly from the rooms). The rooms are very small, but the beds were pretty comfortable and the sheets were very nice. Showers had hot/warm water. Unfortunately our stay did not have a nice end as we were scammed by the front desk after asking them to book a taxi for us to go to the Donmueng Airport. The lady at the front desk told us that they would arrange the best price for our transportation - she charged 750 baht and the actual cost was ~230 baht (although the driver did keep trying to hide the meter under a hat). While I do acknowledge that there is a markup on these services while using a hotel, I feel like this was blatantly taking advantage of their guests and therefore I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay here and won’t reward that behaviour with a high rating despite some positive things. FYI - a 1,500 baht deposit is required at check-in, and was returned in full after the room was checked.

If you are looking for a no thrills place to stay then Khaosan holiday guesthouse is ideal. It is nestled down a tiny alley. The rooms are clean, bed comfy. Our room faced all the bars, although you cannot see them from the window. We could hear the music of a night, but it wasn't loud enough to disturb our sleep. The room and hotel in general could do with updating. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. If you need a laundry service there is one a few steps from the hotel.
