Tarin Hotel

We used Agoda to book a delux room for about $20 US. My wife has a health condition that benefits from soaking in a hot bathtub, and every rooom there has a big tub, something hard to find in Thailand. The rooms are large and nice. The hotel is located near Maya shopping mall and Nimmin.

Considering this is a 3 star hotel; I was seriously apprehensive but had no choice as here for a tournament and the hotel assignments are mandatory. But I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are really spacious. They are basic but very clean. The carpets have a musky smell; but overall I thought their Housekeeping has been very efficient. The toilet is basic; but the water pressure in the shower it good. They provide 2 small bottles of water complimentary daily and there’s a mineral water dispenser in the hall on our floor. The staff is very polite and helpful. They don’t all understand English, but they really go out of their way to assist if they can. There’s a 7-11 100 m away , and the mayu mall is also a 7-8 minutes walk, so it very convenient to get groceries. The breakfast spread is also decent. They’ve got toast, some fruits and veggies, porridge, sunny side eggs and some hot rice and veggies (mostly non veg)

Please don't read the end of this report as being too derogatory, the comments are there to hopefully give the management an opportunity to act. I have stayed in a few Chiang Mai Hotels, but this is the only one that I will definitely use again. It's location was perfect for me. Room was spotless, restaurant served good food - not expensive. Staff were helpful. Generally, it was hard to find fault, but of course, I did: Room: Not enough plug sockets, and those that there were were only 2 pin. Modern appliances such as my laptop has 3 appliances. Not the first time I've experienced this, so I carry an adapter. Wi-Fi was shocking. Would not stay connected for more than 1 minute. I had to refer to my mobile hotspot. Pool Area: No protection from the Thai sun - a few umbrellas would be useful. The pool is plastic, which includes the ladder. For an overweight person such as me, this is dangerous as the ladder twists and turns as you use it. Entrance: There should maybe a warning about major roadworks directly outside the hotel. The soil is being mixed with drainage water from nearby drains. I have cut a toe, which has become seriously infected as a result. Maybe alternate routing to local amenities such as 7-11 should be advised.
