R-Con Blue Ocean Hotel

The hotel is in the middle of Pattaya, down a side road. Its a fairly ggod standard and is reasonably clean. The hotel has a lot of long stay guests who live in Pattaya. The rooms are reasonably equipped and bedding is clean.

When checking in, you'll have to sign a four page contract – written all in Thai. When I got in the room, it was already occupied – by a very big family of bugs. I actually killed at least ten of them every single day. I also sprayed two cans of insecticidal, but they refused to leave so I had to share the room with them. On the third night I found out that I share the room with a lizard too. And some plaster bugworms, and a lot of ants. So it felt more like a zoo than a hotel (the bathroom smelled like it too). The floor tiles are dancing or broken. After a few days, the AC stopped cooling. I went to the reception, where I was told the technician is on three days off. Let that sink in: three days in Thailand without AC. The monthly rate is 10,000, yet with water and electricity it goes up to around 15,000: 9 THB per unit (more than double of government's rate). You don't get drinking water, no soap, no shampoo, no toilet paper, no coffee, no tea. Theoretically there is wifi, but when it works it can be used only on one device. After the room is cleaned – twice a week – it needs a good sweep. The water pressure is that of a leak (maybe so that the bugs can shower too). After 20:00 there's no staff: one night a Trans person from the street followed me all the way into the elevator. Not facts, but my own personal opinion: this is the worst place I have ever stayed in. there are bad hotels, and there are hotels that are so bad they shouldn't be called hotels; this is a perfect example for the latter. Unless they lower the price to no more than 4,000 THB a month including bills and daily cleaning – and a thorough pest control – it's a complete waste of time and money that ruins the whole vacation.

Over the years I have stayed here several times & it was good value. I have also recommended it to friends. Gradually the state of the rooms have got worse & worse. A few days ago I took another friend there to book in. Luckily he only booked in for 2 nights. He would have stayed longer if it was decent. My friend was given a room on the 8th floor. When we walked in every appliances was unplugged & the leads rolled up. This room was like it was in a war torn country. Not a thing worked. No Television reception. WiFi not working. Aircon made a noise but not cold. Every wall was mouldy with water damaged. The tiles had holes in them. My friend left after 1 night. When he checked out the receptionist said he had one more night. He told her his room was a dump & she laughed, instead of offering a new room or refund. I will never recommend R-Con Blue Ocean to anyone ever again. The room was so poor that there was no way they didn’t know about the problems. To be given this room signifies that besides all the other problems there is also a management problem.
