Babylon Palace Hotel

The staff were very unorganised when we arrived and spoke very little English. We were shown our room and it hadn't been cleaned from previous guests. We complained and asked to change rooms, which they agreed to and gave us a higher rate room and said we didn't have to pay the extra charge. We then had several phone calls to our room demanding we pay an extra 200 baht even though the manager had told us we didn't have to. The room didn't have any towels and after requesting 3 times we had to go looking ourselves to find some. The lift broke down whilst we were in it and was stuck in total darkness and after pressing the emergency button numerous times no one came to help. The hotel was very noisy at night and was woken up all hours of the night with people shouting in the corridors and reception calling other rooms. The manager referred to us as "chicken" in front of us, not realising this was rude. Apart from this, the upgraded room was nice, with a terrible view.

Babylon Palace Hotel is right located in a quiet place in a busy place of Pattaya. I shouldn't call this a Palace Hotel ranked as a 3*** hotel. In fact, it's too far to rank this in term of the facilities, service,.... The room was small but clean. It is easy to walk to the Walking Street of Pattaya as well as the bars and restaurant. What we loved was the people. They are friendly.

On the way to Babylon Palace, the cab driver called the hotel for directions. He was told that the hotel was full and had no room for us. We had a prepaid reservation thru Agoda.com. I had emailed the hotel directly that we would arrive very late, well past midnite. The hotel did not help at all with another lodging, and the Agoda customer service lady was not helpful. The driver was kind enough to drive us around to look for an available room, and after checking with over a dozen hotels (it was New Year's Eve), we finally found one around 3am, a real dump, but we just needed beds to sleep on. Around 8am we went looking for a more acceptable lodging, and after about an hour and a half, we settled on one that was nice, but cost a little more. An Agoda representative called about 10am and told us that they had reserved us another hotel room, but of course, I told him this was too little, too late. I had Agoda refund the full amount. I told him Agoda should not do business with a hotel that would cancel a prepaid reservation and leave us stranded in the middle of the nite with no place to stay. After about a month and half after the event, I see Agoda is still offering rooms at this hotel so I would be very weary about booking rooms with them in the future. And guess what? I just got my January credit card statement and Babylon Palace charged me for a full nite's stay, presumably for non-arrival. A hospitality service with these dishonest practices should not be in business.
