We were in Khonkaen for the first time as our niece's husband is from here. We have experienced a few water festivals before, but what is on offer in Khonkaen is extraordinary. The hotel is a bit older, as is the decor. But somehow lovingly and absolutely functional. We had a suite and family had normal rooms and would come back anytime. The power plugs are partially outdated, we had to unplug a lamp to connect the chargers. Our bathroom with shower and bath was very nice. The pool is very large. There is a gym with lots of equipment and also a spa and plenty of parking. For Songkran, the location is very good. The staff was very friendly, as were the people here at all.

We are already regulars at this hotel and this has come of age like us. The rooms are very clean and spacious, the breakfast buffet is oriented towards Thai, you are not in the tourism hotspot but in the middle of the country. The only drawback in the hotel is the service in the evening in the restaurant. Such an unprofessional service has not yet come our way during our 3 month stay in the whole country. But we will still come back.

We drove into Khon Kaen and found this on Expedia. Sometimes the hotel prefers to save the commission and book directly so we drove to the hotel before booking. The guard in front directed us to a mammoth 5 floor parking lot next to the hotel instead of an easy entrance to reception. We had to walk to three parking levels with luggage - my partner is Thai and could read the signs - until we found the lobby on the floor 2 by train and error. We went to the desk and said we could book online or direct. They offered the room at THREE times the price of Expedia. The manager was sullen and seemed unhappy or disinterested at our interest in staying. I booked online at the 1000 baht rate. No welcome, no thank you, no eye contact. I definitely clicked the breakfast options at $3 per person but no idea why it did not go through. Never happened before. The manager said we had to pay double if we paid directly. Here is hospitality 101: Don't send people on a hunt through ancient dark parking structures for the lobby with bags when they want to express interest in staying at your hotel. Don't charge people triple the price that you promote online. I get that rooms may be reserved for the web. Triple the price is criminal grifting. Take the opportunity to make the customer feel good about buying your breakfast if the online ordering seemed to fail. And show some bloody appreciation for a new customer.
