Great place for peace and quiet and the staff are so helpful, especially Su! Great night market snd fire dancers every night. The room is a bit funky but nice and large!

We stayed at Royal Nakara for 6 nights of our Thailand trip. Ao Nang was not our favorite location, but this hotel made it worth it! Location is excellent! Quiet, upscale neighborhood just 10 minute walk from main drag - a busy, noisy, congested strip along the waterfront where you can't walk 5 meters without being blocked by in-your-face barkers and hawkers. There are nice restaurants within 5 minute walk, a convenience store, a pharmacy. Room is huge and well-appointed, older but very clean and quiet. Nice balcony facing inner yard. Very quiet and comfortable. Fridge, safe, kettle and plenty of storage. The two ladies at reception are cheerful, accommodating if you need extra fresh towels or water, and very helpful. They arranged tours and transportation flawlessly, we got perks on tours they recommended unavailable from tour booths or online. Hotel itself is clean and pleasant, a solid 4* in my opinion. There is also a small pool, but we never used it. Ao Nang itself is a busy, touristy town with mediocre beach, primarily good for access to Railay peninsula (breathtaking, amazing beaches, trails and vibe) and nearby islands. For more local and authentic feel, head to a local area with great markets and foods by road where hotel is in opposite to beach direction, about 15-20 minutes walk or 3 minute drive. Royal Nakara Hotel is highly recommended.

This hotel was a huge disappointment. In the photos it looks really nice but to be honest it's a complete dump! I'm not remotely fussy but when you've paid for a 'deluxe suite' with sea view you expect better than having to clean the bathroom yourself on arrival before you can use it. Broken lights, safe not working, mouldy crumbling walls on the balcony and all around the pool, a huge pile of dirty shirts at the bottom of the stairs which was there the entire time we stayed... the changing facilities by the deserted pool were utterly filthy, barely anyone else was staying at this hotel so this was inexcusable. The staff were nice although the cleaner spent 90% of her time sat in reception chatting and the other 10% cleaning the lobby, given how quiet the hotel was the poor cleanliness was really bad. No lift between our room and the pool so four flights of stairs. Beds were comfortable although it was hard to sleep with the bright lights of a sign on the adjacent building glaring through all night, some blackout blinds would easily solve this. When we told locals where we were staying they looked at us with pity, this hotel evidently has a bad reputation locally. It's as though it was left to rot during Covid and has reopened without any of the vital repairs taking place to bring it up to standard. Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere better for your dream holiday in this stunning part of the world!
