My husband and I drove in a rental car on the Mae Hong Son loop counterclockwise, and on our first night we stayed at the Pai Hotsprings Spa Resort. It was quite easy to find, a little ways out of town. We stayed there one night. We went in the middle of April, towards the end of the "smoky" season, so the air was still smoky. Perhaps this is the reason that we were literally the ONLY guests at the whole resort. Just us. They upgraded us for free to a riverside bungalow, which was great. At one time, there used to be a little hot tub on the porch, but I don't think it had been used in a long time. Our mattress was very hard. The pool is huge but wasn't very clean. If they had left some nets around, we would have gladly cleaned it ourselves before using. There is also a small area in another part of the resort where water from the local hot springs is still pumped into a square tub. The whole place looks like it was probably really nice once. Staff was very nice and our breakfast was great. Even with all its downsides, we paid so little for our one night, I still think we got our money's worth.

It’s all about expectations! – If you lower them a bit and don’t expect a luxury hotel, the experience turns out just perfect 🙂. The breakfast was pleasant, the rooms were clean and spacious, and the view of the river was wonderful. The staff were very kind and went above and beyond to provide great service. The hot springs are open all day, and in the evening they are reserved only for hotel guests – a unique and relaxing experience. True, the hotel could use some renovation and extra care, but overall it was a great stay. Excellent value for money. The location is about 9 km from the city center, so a private car is necessary.

Shame, so much potential but really faded glory. We were allowed to look around first and left immediately. Did not look clean and felt unsafe (legionella danger crept up on us)
