Pantawee Hotel

We used to like going to Pantawee and sitting on the front verandah overlooking the street. The food was always quite good and the prices very reasonable. However, sadly, the hotel has been bulldozed. There remains only a vacant block.

Sad to see this hotel has seen better days. Upon arrival we thought it was closed - all in darkness and the building dirty and overgrown. The part of the hotel that’s open is to the rear and only has 25 rooms. Hotel room didn’t look clean and no lift to the 4th floor to carry our suitcases. Nobody else staying at the hotel so didn’t feel safe checking in - we walked out and found somewhere else to stay. The hotel had asked us to pay upfront as it’s the Naga festival, but I suspect now that it was a ploy just to get our cash - not the end of the world but I would definitely recommend not paying before you’ve seen the hotel - will know better next time lol 😂

Excellent value for money is the semi-secluded, but super central location, is the Pantawee Hotel Branch 2, in beautiful Nong Khai, Northeastern (isaan) Thailand. My room was on the second floor, positioned on the front corner with a nice aspect as well as soothing breezes at twilight time. There are rooms of different sizes, at different price points and I found that the reception staff extremely helpful at all times, during my short stay. Lots of channels in multiple languages on the TV, plenty of desk, storage and bathroom space. The decor is a little bit old school (see my Coffee Chill TV YouTube Vlog) and that is great, too. A highlight was the pool, spacious, good depth and just perfect to plunge into after exploring the nearby attractions, including walking street on the Mekong and or the many fine bars and restaurants close to the hotel. I will be back.
