I Am Residence

Started off on a bad note when we arrived after 16 hours flying & no roll away bed out for my teenage son. The lady at reception said tomorrow, tomorrow so he had to share a bed with his teenage sister, not ideal!! Otherwise friendly welcome, the rest of the time she was quite cold & very unsmiling. The cleaning ladies were friendlier!! Our private balcony was great, spent a lot of time out there. Could see the ocean in the far distance. The pool although small & very cold was clean & we didn't see anyone but us using it so had it to ourselves. Pool towels available from the office. The man who was often at reception was fantastic! I asked him if he was the owner & he said no, I am the manager's friend. Hopefully one day he will be promoted as he really made the place!!! Even bought out extra chairs while we were waiting for pick ups. I Am Residence could be improved with a good clean! Our floors were always cleaned but the hand basins & showers were always so grubby. The shower rose falls down when showering, the plugs are dodgy as, the heat pump remote needed new batteries, the toilet paper holders were only just hanging on, the towels were often grey & threadbare. We often ran out of toilet paper, no shampoo provided, hit & miss if you got hand towels or just shower towels, some lights didn't work. Such simple things would make a huge difference!! On the second day I asked the reception lady for our roll a way & she didn't know what I was talking about. I reminded her that we had discussed it the night before and she said ok you pay 500 baht a night. I had to argue that it was prepaid & could show her the paperwork if necessary. I asked for a refund for the first night but she said you didn't pay for first night, only other. I gave up but the rollaway was delivered. Water pressure fluctuated so much. Sometimes you couldn't even wash your hands in ensuite bathroom as no pressure (which the tap only had hot water) so had to use the kitchen (which the tap only had cold water). Certainly couldn't use both showers at once!! It was a struggle to climb up onto the platform & into the bath to use ensuite shower anyway so we just used the one with a walk in floor. Appreciated the free daily bottles of water. Location wise it could have been A LOT worse. Easy 15 - 20 minute brisk walk to Patong beach. Can go a few different ways to find some good restaurants & close enough to walk to Jungceylon, Bangla Rd & markets. Three massage parlours very close. 200 baht into town & always quoted 300 baht back as no tuk tuk drivers ever knew where it is!! Fustrating so we always ended up just walking. When we booked we were told that for the four of us we had to pay for six adults PLUS the rollaway bed. It was via our travel agent & she rang them on speaker phone. As it was HUGELY cheaper than other places she quoted we went with it. In hindsight I am really wondering why they insisted on that. There is two rooms with two king sized beds & the rollaway was put in the lounge. One way to make more money I guess!! A huge bonus of the place is the size of the rooms & especially the lounge. So great to have a lounge area & table & chairs. Comfy couches too! Portable towel rail was used often, curtains great for blackout. Although my review does sound very negative it really is a good place for a budget conscious traveler & family who don't want to be in the heart of Patong beach & kept awake at night with noise from bars & tourists etc. We would even stay here again if they address those few simple issues & definitely the water pressure.

Hotel is spacious even its only one bedroom it can fit 2 more people but we had two unit seperatley with our parents and grand parents. The downside on this maybe the owner needs to check all rooms if things are still well maintained like we stayed on our room the aircon is not working in the living room part it needs to manually switch on to boost the fan. The tv’s are old i think because the tv that we used to watch in the living room has sounds but no display. No security guard but there’s cctv it’s safer if there is security guard. The cabinets need to be fixed and clean as well all the light bulbs in the cielling. 15-20mins. walk to patong beach.

Spacious and quiet stay. The staff could not be more helpful. The owner was exceptional at helping us find taxis, sights to see and food. I Am Residence is a little walk from patong beach but only about a 8 min tuk tuk ride (200 baht). Would stay here again.
