M's Guest House

We stayed two nights here, and except for the quite long way to Patong this place is good for everyone. Price/value is good if you don't plan to stay in the room all day. But Patong visitors probably don't plan that anyway... Regarding Patong itself, though this is not the correct place: expect billions of people at the beach and on the streets, then you'll get around with it. If you don't want that: visit Ko Pha-Ngang.

Rooms get cleaned once a day-cups however aren't, but toilet rolls only issued every 3rd day, and was threatened by the manager when we requested extra. internet only available at the lobby. bed wasn't comfortable at all. was placed on the 4th floor (highest in hotel-no elevator), although we were 1 of 2 other guests in the hotel. the hotel is far away from town life and you have to cross a busy and unsafe street if you're walking. No breakfast was provided as advertised. the staff can barely speak english and the neighbourhood isn't fantastic. None of the tour companies or diving companies we used had even heard of the place, so it took a lot of explaining for them to pick us up and on more than one occasion they were late. After a fight with the manager, we checked out..found the nearest tuk-tuk, and drove to the main road and booked into another guesthouse..there are 100's of small guesthouses there, that was cheaper and closer to phuket activities than this one.

I was having my doubts when i booked a room in Ms Guesthouse as i couldn't find as much information about as i would like. This place is also very difficult to locate as it as tucked away along some dirt track, a distance away from the main road. But do not worry about safety as the local police station is a short distance away. The room and toilet were clean and neat, there is air conditioning, pillows, blankets, blah blah blah... everything you need on a budget travel. The entire compound has a rather cosy feel to it as it isnt as close to the beach (15min by foot, 2 min by car), hence away from all the hustle and bustle associated with Patong beach. Breakfast is served al fresco, and i would say it is 1 of the most enjoyable breakfast i had, under the gentle graze of the morning sun, facing the mountain, cool wind gently carassing and looking at the local thais going about their morning activities a short distance away. A great time to exchange stories with other travellers as well! But it wasnt the room nor facilities that compelled me to write a raving review about this guesthouse. It is the excellent service by the staff, not the Ritz Carlton type of classy sophiscated service, but a service with sincerity that makes you feel so welcomed. This female co-owner of the place is so sweet and nice that you feel that you are staying over at your aunt's place and not overseas!
