Good Night Cha-am Minitel

We walked to the hotel from the intersection where the bus dropped us off and so were very hot when we arrived. When we checked in, the woman at reception led us to our room and turned on the air, plugged in the fridge (meaning no cold water for us) and unstacked the 2 chairs and table that were next to the bed. When I got in the shower to cool off, I noticed black mold. The room was incredibly hot and the AC wasn't able to cool the room down completely. The wifi signal was so poor, it didn't work. When we turned on the TV, all we saw was the channel numbers. The maintenance guy had to jiggle the cable but even then, the picture wasn’t clear. Because all of the rooms are situated around the stairwell (which is actually quite pretty), the floor is concrete and the doors are thin, you can hear all the other guests going up and down the stairs, yelling and closing their doors. Around 10:30 that night, the fan in the AC went off and on 3 times. We told reception who moved us to a new room, but wanted us to leave our stuff in the old room because the new room was too small. I said no way. The mattress was very uncomfortable. The next morning around 9:30, the electricity went off, which meant that there was no water. We had booked 2 nights but at that point, we decided to check out. I've stayed at a lot of hotels in Thailand and around the world, and this was the worst.

Clean sheet ,comfortable bed, clean shower room with a airy terrace. Tips: Request a room 204 , big room on the corner of second floor.

We booked online and if it is to be believed, booked at quite a discounted rate. Considering the room decor and the lack of a pool, i'd say the rates are too high. Something around the 700 - 800 baht range would be about right in my opinion. The rooms are fine if a bit functionary. The toilet doors are though a bit of an issue as others have already mentioned. In this day and age of glass walled public viewing bathrooms that can be found in many hotels, i guess a lightly frosted glass bathroom door is no surprise, but the problem here is that there is no blind that can be used for privacy, and the view the bedroom occupants get isn't of the shower - which could be appealing dependent on who you are staying with - but rather of the toilet. I think it is safe to say that no matter how intimate you might be with a person, you have no need to see them "going through their motions", even if there is lightly frosted glass between you. The bed was a bit soft for our taste but we like them firm, so might satisfy others. The location is really good. Very near to the beach and yet not so close as to be caught up in all the hustle and bustle. Free bikes are a really good idea. The staff were very friendly.
