Da Kanda Villa Beach Resort

The room/bungalow was too hot .. even though the aircon stood at 17 degrees constantly. Old, worn and dirty place. No fun here at all. Towels and bedding smelled really bad. It smelled sour and sweaty just as soon as you had just dried your fingers in it. We got “clean” towels several times in one day, but with the same result. We will never come back and can not even understand they have received such high reviews. It has nothing to do with what you get.

Im not sure this qualifies for 2 stars but Im trying to be fair. Lets start with the pros: The location is near Thong Sala, its a 10 minute walk into town for all your shops, restaurants and bars. The accommodation overall looks nice and its in a lovely setting. There is a restaurant on site and the hotel can sort bike/car hire and trips etc if needed. Now for the cons and he reason we would not return again: Its a lot of money for what you get, £80 a night for a beach villa. We had 2 as there were 4 of us travelling, so £160 per night for Thailand! We had rooms C06 and C07. The room C07 has a hole in the cupboard where it was previously broken into and the safe was ripped from the wall and the floor and taken. So there is no safe anymore to store anything. We were also told its because there is no security on the beach, no cameras, so keep this in mind if considering a beach villa. The shower was either burning hot or cold, the heater cannot handle warm, it clicks on or off for the shower and thats it! They advertise a hot tub, these do not exist so a false claim and disappointing having paid so much and expecting otherwise. The bath is dated and no hot water comes through, so its pointless. Breakfast was awful, we tried it once and never again. Each dish came out so so cold, the toast was bread that saw barely any to no heat and stone cold, the eggs overdone and also cold, not 1 breakfast out of the four was any good. This was the worst in Thailand we had, and we stayed in 5 different locations/islands and varying hotels and huts etc. The last night we decided to try dinner, another disaster, so in short avoid! We found out from them that only 1 Thai person works in the hotel, the rest are from Myanmar, needless to say this finally explained why the food was not Thai or any good, they dont know how to make Thai food. This hotel needs to sort this out, its was poor and overall everything was expensive! The swimming pool was ok overall but needs some maintenance and TLC. We could see nice looking rooms onsite and anyone thinking of staying here should consider cheaper options or avoid this hotel altogether. I cant knock the views nor the location. The Thai lady on reception was very nice. However, there are plenty of other options nearby. Sadly, having stayed here years ago, its just being run down a bit and not even Thai run anymore. Add that to the expensive rooms and issues, its not worth it and we will not return again after this sadly.

Extremely disappointing hotel, far below expectations. The room is outdated, poorly maintained, and definitely not worth the price. The air conditioning is badly positioned, blowing directly onto the bed and onto the face. The room is not properly insulated, and worst of all, there were many insects inside. It’s impossible to feel comfortable or clean in these conditions. The bed is very uncomfortable, and in terms of hygiene, it’s unacceptable: just a blanket instead of a proper duvet cover. There is also no privacy at all — no sheer curtains, so I had to keep the blackout curtains fully closed just to avoid being seen by neighbors, meaning no natural light. I strongly do not recommend this hotel.
