Khao Sok Smiley Bungalow

The place was stunning. Myself and my partner really enjoyed this experience we did one day on Khao Sok town and one day on the lake, however we were unaware of the events that were about to unfold shortly after. It is a shame because we would have given it a 5/5 if we didn't become so ill. I strongly urge you to read reviews before booking a place like this as many reviews outline similar experiences regarding food poisoning.Both myself and my partner were affected. This really set us back tremendously during our holiday as I needed medical intervention in a hospital as it was almost life threatening if no treatment was received. This was by far the worst case of food poisoning I have gotten in my life. Medical bills were also high. There was no way we could have prevented this as the lake was a remote area with no shops nearby and we were left with no choice but to consume the food in the buffet.

Amazing experience, lots of amazing activities and good food (also great vegan options!). Bungalows we’re cool :) Definitely worth it!!

We paid 200baht extra for “smiley hugs” room, however this was a very poor nights stay. We used the bathroom light for less than 5 seconds and the room was flooded with various kinds of bugs. Staff weren’t very visable or welcoming so didn’t feel able to contact them about the issue, luckily we had our own nets for sleeping but we were unable to use the bathroom for over 12 hours at night. The town around had shops and restaurants was very quiet lots seemed shut. Breakfast was cold eggs and quite small- limited choice. There was also loud building work going on directly outside- this really took away from the “jungle” feel and atmosphere felt different. We did the 2 night 3 day tour so went to the Lakehouse after this and it was miles different- no bugs and amazing facilities and staff! A dream. I’d recommend finding other accommodation than doing this tour and staying at the jungle smiley hugs bunglows. Just stay in a hotel then go to lake the next night!
