Personally I loved this place but can understand all the negative reviews, as this place is not for everyone. I will try to give a balanced view. If you want luxury or a full service modern resort , you better avoid Koh Mook. Koh Mook is a very scenic island with a local village and decent prices for everything, so it makes a great base for people who love to explore and also relax. This resort has rundown rooms and loose dogs on the beach and around the resort, but a lot of Koh Mook is like this. The beach has a lot of mud and small stones when the tide goes out, and wifi reception isn't the best! Kayakers and hikers will really appreciate this place as long as you dont want luxury. Now the positives, very good aircon, large bungalows if you book Mook villas away from the swimming pool and away from any noisy guests (as some backpackers can be noisy at night staying here and generally pick the cheaper pool rooms) if you want a resort jungle setting, with 3 free double kayaks, breakfast included, free water tea and coffee etc in the rooms aswell as nice balconies with seaview and jungle surrounding you, you will love it. Its a typical Thai old fashioned resort with a great location for kayaking, or walking 10 minutes to the village for shopping, eating, or the jetty to see loads of seacows in the sea up close. Also you are very close to the start of the walk to the viewpoint and also the walk to sabai and ko dung beaches- all fantastic. This resort is at the end of the village on the beach surrounded by jungle and is normally very quiet-depending on type of guests staying. You are on the opposite side of the island to Charlies beach. I am not keen on dogs everywhere but it didn't really bother me. Unfortunately it was the behaviour of some Western guests thinking they are clever feeding their breakfast to the dogs in the breakfast area and at the table, which is pretty disgusting. The swimming pool is very good and clean with lovely seaviews and the whole feel here is very relaxed and friendly. The price is good too for what you get. I kept extending and will definitely be back as you can kayak to Emerald cave from here aswell as around most of the island including the stunning Sabai and Charlies beaches.

I was expecting the worse from reading previous reviews but was super happy surprised. Yes it’s not the Ritz but they also don’t ask Ritz prices. I stayed at many places in Thailand and this is brilliant. Great mattress and comfy pillow. The shower is hot and they even have a little Fridge in the room. I had the resort pretty much to myself and enjoyed the pool a lot. It’s stunning, huge and clean. The staff is lovely and location is a 2/3 minute tuk tuk aways from The ‘centre’. Or You can walk like I did many times ( over the ‘road’ or through the fisherman’s village)

Please, I hope yoy read all the other reviews too. Fortunately we only booked two nights here in a sea view bungalow with aircon and breakfast. This review is based on the price, facilities etc. This 'resort' is way overpriced and by no means a resort. The right price for a sea view bungalow with aircon and breakfast should be no more than 1500 thb! Also it closes at 19.30 and by 23 lights are out on the pathways except from a few bulbs. The bungalows are worn out, holes in the walls, HARD beds like you're lying right on the springs. No storage for clothes in our bungalow type. Tv yes, but only 6 channels in thai. You can't use the so called beach, yes it is water front but thats it. I think the vision got lost somewhere in the process. Perhaps if they had made a great poolarea, like an infinity pool and kept the place in better condition. If you do stay here, don't bother to pay for sea view and breakfast. The resort is like a ghost town, there's definitely people staying here, but only to sleep. If you want to stay right on the beach, where you can take a swim, Sivalai is the only place to go. The sand is really speciel there, it sounds like snow when you walk in it. If you can do without beach front, there are plenty of other bungalows and villas to choose from, which are way cheaper! The island itself is ok though. Mind you, that there's lots of trash which is a shame. The people here are really friendly, just like the rest of Thailand, and some even more.
