Sahara Douz

Very pleasant pool. This is the only positive point. TV is broken. Like one bulb out of two in the room. Poor and very mediocre food. No towels at the pool.

We, like many, had this hotel as a transit. Overnight stays and meals were included in a 2-day excursion to the Sahara Desert. Since we had many planned activities (quad biking in the desert sands, watching the desert sun set by walking in a camel caravan, and meeting the dawn at the "Lake of Death" Schott el Jerid) everything in this hotel was scheduled minutes, but we still had time to appreciate the merits of this hotel. They put us in very quickly, we got room 222 on the second floor overlooking the pool. It's not a big room, but it's all there. A large comfortable two bedroom bed, two nightstands, two chairs, a hold, a closet, a TV we didn't turn on, internet at the hotel, but we didn't use it either. Good plumbing, three towels of different sizes for each, and of the toiletries only shower gel and liquid hand soap. We didn't bring toothbrushes with pasta, thought they'd be here, but unfortunately they didn't. There was no balcony in our room, just a window. The hotel grounds are beautiful, green, we had time to walk around them for a while, but the swimming pool was not possible due to a busy schedule. From the meals we had dinner and breakfast (buffet). Breakfasts at the hotel started at 3 a.m., because we went early for the tour to meet the dawn. The food is excellent, varied, full. Wide selection of meat, fish dishes, side dishes, salads, soups, desserts, pastries. We really enjoyed the ice cream. We recommend this hotel not only as a transit hotel, but also for multi-day holidays.

Although I've found people all over Tunisia to be incredibly kind and helpful, these are not the adjectives I'd use for the staff at the Hotel Sahara Douz, who seemed grumpy and not interested in addressing any of my questions. My room's AC was not functioning; and the room was filled with flies and mosquitoes, so I was reluctant to open the unscreened window for air flow. The walls were paper thin and it was impossible to get a good night's sleep as all one could hear were guests in the hallway or overhead, rearranging furniture.
