Surmeli Istanbul Hotel

Unfortunately, we were not at all impressed by our stay at the Hotel Sürmeli. Our impression is that the hotel may have had a good standard many years ago, but has since clearly aged and no longer seems contemporary. The bathroom in particular was disappointing: The fixtures were heavily calcified and, overall, many things seemed run-down, old, and unkempt. The smell throughout the room was very unpleasant. There were also immediate problems upon arrival. The toilet did not work and first had to be repaired. In addition, the air conditioning in our room did not work. At the reception, we were initially told that someone would take care of it. However, after no one came and we asked again, a staff member merely went into a back room and turned the air conditioning back on. Overall, we unfortunately did not get the impression that guests' concerns are addressed with particular attention. We personally would therefore not recommend this hotel.

The hotel is an absolute disaster; the staff, from the lobby personnel to the manager, are all terrible. It's like a two-star hotel in a remote corner of Istanbul. The room sheets and bathroom were extremely dirty, and even though we asked for them to be cleaned, they remained filthy. They were so disrespectful that they called the room's landline at 1:00 AM to confirm whether they had received the payment. A man named Kazım Karataş, who claims to be the hotel's operations manager, addresses customers using terms like "sister" and "master." Parking is paid. Moreover, they reminded us 3-4 times before we entered that this is only a place to choose if you want to waste your money and be humiliated in Istanbul. The price charged through the app is exactly double the price you pay when you call the hotel. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone; it's a good option if you want to have a bad experience at an exorbitant price.

Very disappointing experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff were unhelpful and dismissive. Instead of resolving an issue with our booking, they pushed the responsibility onto us and offered no real support. Even when we asked to speak with the manager, nothing was handled professionally. The attitude at reception was particularly rude, which made us feel quite uncomfortable during our stay. On top of that, the overall quality of the hotel did not match the price. The breakfast was especially poor and lacked basic quality. There are many much better hotels in Istanbul for the same price. I would strongly recommend choosing somewhere else.
