My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in this beautifully restored Ottoman building. The interiors are gorgeous and the staff responded positively to my request for a room on a lower floor and gave us a couple of choices to choose a room. Our room was large with high ceilings, traditional Ottoman-era decor and a huge comfy bed. Breakfast was taken in a building across from the garden and was delicious. There is a convenient parking lot across the street. They also agreed to have our clothes laundered as we had been travelling for 2 weeks. The bathroom is constructed in an interesting way and hot water was iffy, but this is to be expected in an old building.

We loved our stay in Gulevi Hotel Safranbolu. Hassan and Sofia were very welcoming, attentive and helpful. The hotel is a traditional Ottoman three story building. It has a lovely garden area to relax in and where breakfast is served. Breakfast is locally oriented with eggs, bread/toast, olives, cucumber, tomato, yoghurt, cheeses and a selection of jams made by the wonderful Sofia. The hotel is in a great location within a short walk to the main shopping and restaurant area. Safranbolu is a local Turkish tourist town and as Australian’s we utilised Google Translate quite a lot. There are people around that speak English but we felt like we experienced more of Turkey in our 3 days here and absolutely loved it. Be prepared for lots of steps in the hotel and the steep cobblestone roads but this is Safranbolu. We were in the front building on the top floor and the room was lovely but keep in mind this is a 220 year old building with amenities that match this period. Bring good walking shoes and maybe some earplugs as there is music and the call to prayer that may wake you. Hassan and SOFIA were truely wonderful and really made a great impression on us. Safranbolu is worth the trip off the tourist path.

We spent a night in the village of Safranbolu which enchanted us for its authenticity and beauty and here we stayed in this very special hotel. It features architecture that evokes Ottoman dwellings both in interior and exterior furnishings. I slept in a very suggestive bed since the mattress was in the floor but it is all about identifying with the mood of the Ottoman period and everything will acquire the charm it deserves. Breakfast at the property was the best of our entire trip to Anatolia, amazing!
