Thainstone House

Booked as a couple for an anniversary night away. Attracted by location and good reputation. Check in was easy and receptionist friendly. Did notice the staircase on way in looked unhoovered. Booked a deluxe king room and view of bins and cars was disappointing. Cleanliness issues were apparent immediately with hair on the sink and both shower walls in the bathroom, mouldy shower screen, sticky brown substance on one of the chairs, white substance and what looked like blood on the bed frame. One of the controls fell of the shower. Reported to reception who apologised and offer to arrange a complimentary drink and justified this due to cleaning staff being off sick. Went to the swimming pool and spa to find half of the already small pool was sectioned off for swimming lessons leaving approx a metres width to swim in. Steam room floor felt slimy and smelt of mould. Another guest in jacuzzi was picking spots out of his sons ears making us leave. Was unable to use the outdoor spa facilities after enquiring about these due to be closed for private booking. Quality of food at dinner was excellent but drinks very pricy. Didn't get great nights sleep due to the bedding (thick winter quilt with no sheet) despite using the fan. Our room was between two corridor doors which banged loudly in the morning waking us up when other guests went past. There was one consistent staff member at breakfast and no white bread for toast, orange/apple juice or glasses which had to be asked for. Dining Room was full of tables of dirty dishes. Buffet breakfast was lovely but never offered the speciality menu which saw other guests offered. Upon checkout, no complimentary drinks were added so had to remind of this and questioned why service charge (additional tip) had been added. It did remind us of Fawlty Towers. Having stayed in other local spa hotels, was left very disappointed and wont be returning.

Absolutely loved our stay here. All the members of the team were extremely friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough to help. The decor and cleanliness of the bedroom and the hotel itself were outstanding. The bar area is a lovely place to be and the bar staff will make you feel like a VIP. The food in the restaurant was outstanding and the staff , once again, couldn’t do enough to make sure we enjoyed our visit. Excellent value for money and a comfortable bed all set in beautiful grounds makes Thainstone House a hit with us. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again or to recommend.

We checked out this morning after what should have been a lovely relaxing weekend away turned into a catalogue of disappointments. On arrival we were advised of a wedding taking place but felt this would not be to much of an impact as have stayed in hotels when weddings have taken place and it did not impact our stay however this was not to be the case . We were unable to eat in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, the wedding party took over every reception room, we were not able to even buy a drink at the bar. We had to push past them vaping and blocking the entrance and felt like intruders which we clearly were not We had to keep our window closed in a very small bedroom until the music had stopped then were subjected to loud voices just after midnight and again at 1am. We followed the rule re the shower and unfortunately even making the quickest exit from the bathroom seemingly set of the fire alarm. The bathroom was too hot to stay in with the door closed so had to wait until the very poor fan cleared the steam I developed an area of small bites on my leg and swelling to my eyes which I had to buy medication for. We did ask the receptionist on the Saturday morning and she kindly checked but the only other room available was beside the ballroom where the party was taking place.
