Royal Hotel

We booked this hotel very last minute due to an air bnb hiccup (our fault). Yes the hotel is dated and needs improvement in areas but our bed was comfy and clean and the bathroom perfectly fine. What made the stay for us though was the wonderful lady on the front desk (whose name I’ve forgotten but I think was Nicole) she was so very helpful and kind and really took the stress out of a stressful first night in Oban. She is a total star and credit to the hotel.

This place is in desperate need of a makeover as it has so much potential in a great location. Oban itself is a charming fishing town with lots of shops, restaurants, walks and history. I love it as a place but the hotel made me feel like we were in prison. Our tiny twin room was barely big enough for us plus the dog. We were on the main road so could hear busy traffic all night. In its defense the bathroom has clearly had a more recent updo with new tiles and a great power shower buy the bedroom reminded me of my grans living room from the 90s. The beds were rock hard and squeaky, there was barely any storage and everything felt tatty. The breakfast however was pretty faultless. A buffet with basically everything available including tattie scones - the best. And it was constantly restocked with fresh hot food. Parking wasn't great - we ended up using street parking as the car park is super awkward.

Booked this hotel for a solo four day break . The hotel is badly in need of a total refurbishment . The communal areas are very tired , worn carpets , torn wallpaper , chipped paintwork. My room was ok , clean and the bathroom had been upgraded at some point . Only one bedside lamp in a double room. The view from my window to the back of the hotel was not good , rotten windows , drainpipes and gutters rusty, leaking with weeds everywhere. Breakfast was barely eatable , the food in the hotplates was luke warm and not very palatable . The main dining room equally shoddy and run down. The bar was a depressing place , a relic of the 1980s with a stale smell I would avoid this place at all costs . The only good thing I can say is the staff were all very friendly and were trying hard to please.
