Hilton Newbury North Hotel

We stayed at this hotel over 2 nights whilst we attended a wedding in the local area. We booked a Queen Deluxe room, which was advertised as having a multitude of services including bathrobes and slippers. Initial impressions of the room were that it was very tired. Lots of bashes on the old-fashioned wardrobes, old fashioned velour upholstery on the chairs, the overflow above the window was pouring pretty constantly and as a consequence the outside of the windows was filthy. There were no bathrobes or slippers. There was only one pillow each. Very poor for the money we paid and very far below the quality I expected. To be fair at reception when I checked if this really was a queen deluxe room, as it didn't feel deluxe to me, they offered to see if they could find me some bathrobes (I declined, as it wasn't important) and said they would get someone to look at the overflow (it was still running 2 days later when we checked out). We booked the package that included one evening meal. This was ok - not amazing, but ok. The breakfast was not really ok. On the first day the hash browns had black bit of potato in most of them. The quality of the ingredients was not great. Don't get me wrong - if this was a budget hotel it would have been ok but I felt the room rate I was paying was premium and therefore I expected at least average ingredient quality. The staff were polite, and the bar & restaurant staff were especially helpful and friendly. That said, the general ambiance/first impression was not generally improved by members of staff standing by the entrance smoking (next to the no smoking sign). I thought for the price I paid I was going to get a "nice" hotel. For me, this was only just about "ok" and considerably inferior to that on offer by the bigger chains.

Lovely nights stay with a comfy bed and a great breakfast- all staff were very friendly. Pancakes were fantastic! My 10 year old daughter loved the pool - swimming lesson for babies restricted space a little… Great stay

A lovely welcome from all the staff. Hotel is dated but the staff are full of energy and smiling which makes up for the decor! Breakfast was plentiful even at the end of the time with a good selection. Hannah in the restaurant is exceptional, a real delight with a huge smile
