Arrived the 30th January for a two night stay over the weekend. Used my new Butcombe loyalty membership card. On arrival shown to our room which was cold we tried to turn the heating on but the radiators were not working, we then went to sit by the log fire to get warm as very cold in January and report the problem only to find there was no fire apparently there were no logs and the staff member informed us he didn’t know when they would get some and yes there was a problem with the central heating. As the pub sells sells itself on lovely open fires and comfortable rooms we decided to leave as not prepared to stay freezing cold for two days/nights for just under £300. The staff member understood and refunded our debit card and we were able to find a hotel in nearby Newbury although the only rooms available were £200 per night so we had to spend a bit more! On July 17th 2026 (SEVEN months later) we noticed that the Crab and Boar had taken the £297 from our account again. WOW 😮 😡. We have reported them to our bank for freud and I am still waiting for Butcombe customer services to get back to me after 3 phone calls and an email to their customer services department.

We choose the Crab and Boar for a one night stop over to break the journey home to the West Midlands from the New Forest. We had an evening meal, which we enjoyed. The atmosphere in the restaraunt was vibrant but not over loud. Service was excellent. The staff were pleasant and welcoming and our room was clean. Breakfast was freshly prepared. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
