Crown Lodge Guest House

It was like something from a horror film. We stayed at the Crown Lodge and our room was on the third floor on the attic. Where to start? Room was tiny. The ceiling was very low and the ceiling ledges were that low that we all banged our heads on it several times. The window could not be opened at all on one side as there was not handle on it and the other small window was locked on a latch so could not be fully opened. There was a fan in the room but this just circulated stale air and we all came away with colds. The television is mounted on the wall where there is a shower behind it. Electrics and water could be potentially life threatening. No fire escape either which was also very worrying. Overall state of the room was very poor. Holes in the net curtains, stains on the bed cover, shower soap mounted on the wall fell off. We complained to the manager and he failed to accept any responsibility or apologize for the state of the room. I am sure that this accomodation has not had planning or passed building regulations. My concerns will be passed on to the tourist board as it is not safe to stay there.

The property is very appealing from the outside. The lodge is painted in a brilliant white paint, there are lots of pretty flowers in the front garden and some steps up to the front door. Booking in was easy and hassle free. The owner greets you at the front door, you get shows into the office where you sort payments and given your room key. (Walking through the building you notice a fresh and clean smell in the air). You are told where the breakfast room is situated in the building and the times for breakfast. You also benefit from free WiFi and free parking. The car park has 24hr cctv, both of which I feel make this lodge stand out from others in the area. Our room was a large family room, (room 2) situated at the front of the lodge, this looked out onto the front garden. We had one double and one single bed in our room. Rooms were made up with beautiful fresh and clean white bed linen and were changed daily. All towels were white and fluffy and were also changed daily. The beds and pillows were soft and comfortable and we all slept well. In our family room we had a small shower room, which was small, but has everything you need. In there included free toiletries such as all over body shampoo and soaps. There were tea and coffee making facilities in our room. Breakfast you can have either a cold breakfast or a full English, the choice is yours. This includes bacon, egg, sausage, beans, toast, porridge, fruit, breakfast bars, yogurts and a selection of cereals. Tea, coffee, fruit juice and toast is also included in this. The service in here was great. A very friendly, chatty lady sorted breakfast daily. Checking out was even easier than booking in. You simply give the owner your keys back and off home you go. I would highly recommend this lodge in Reading. I have stayed in this lodge on two separate occasions, both for a couple of days each stay. Nothing is too much for the owner and other staff, all of which make you feel very welcome and comfortable throughout your stay.

Very friendly , room for family brilliant , great breakfast , will stay again , great parking , easy to find , couldn’t have asked for more , walking distance to town centre, all on suite rooms shower amazing even on top floor so clean you can c9me and go as you please
