Harte And Garter Hotel

Disappointing stay despite an amazing location We stayed at the Harte & Garter as a base for a trip to the West End, before heading on to Thorpe Park the following day. Given the cost per night, we arrived with fairly high expectations. The location is fantastic, and our room had an amazing view of Windsor Castle, which was undoubtedly the highlight of the stay. Unfortunately, the standards and condition of the hotel itself didn’t live up to the price. There were several areas that felt tired and in need of attention. The paintwork in the room was messy, and the carpets in the stairwells were noticeably threadbare. Even the complimentary shower gel provided in the bathroom was disappointing — it was extremely watery and gave the impression that it had either been heavily diluted or was a partially used bottle that had been topped up. For the price we paid, we expected a much higher standard of presentation and attention to detail. It’s a real shame because the location and views are excellent, but the condition of the hotel made the stay feel poor value for money. A fantastic setting, but unfortunately the standard of the accommodation didn’t match the price or our expectations.

I am of an age where I have experienced a variety of hotels and budgets, however none have ever made me want to write a review more than this place. Let’s get one thing straight this review is a BAD review not a good one. This was booked for a wedding anniversary and we paid £225 for the room with a continental breakfast for one night. The reception is located at the back of the lobby and consists of no more than a cheap office desk. The person attending to reception will promote themselves to be either just a worker of the general manager depending on the scenario. The lift is a shaky box with no emergency information and a peeling paper sign with no information. None of the security doors within the communal parts work I.e not lock and neither did the door of our room without considerable force.. the rooms are a mix of cheap furniture, the bathrooms are filthy, the ceilings are in a poor state of repair due to obvious signs of leaks from the rooms above. They have added floor standing ex office fans to the rooms to help with poor airflow (which by the way had out of date PAT test stickers on), however the room still had a worrying damp and musty smell. The balcony doors had the restrictors removed which led to a below legal level balustrade semi protecting you falling to the street below. I could go on and on but I won’t. Just do not stay at this so called hotel, unless you would like some drugs which I was offered after no more than 5 minutes of entering this place. We did not end up staying the night because of the experience. This was booked through booking.com and neither them or the hotel have made any effort to appropriately respond to the problems encountered and more importantly no one is helping with us having our money we paid for this refunded. The whole thing is a disgrace.

We visited for 2 nights and booked a room with Castle view. The view from our room was very impressive, right in front of the castle, we couldn’t have got closer if we tried. The room itself was fairly dated although quite large. The bathroom needs some attention and wasn’t as clean as other hotels we’ve stayed in but it was adequate. There was a TV but you couldn’t only get bbc world news and movies. Tea and coffee making , plenty of lights and 2 fans. Other than the room, the rest of the hotel is very dated and need ls a revamp. It’s a shame because they have an amazing location!
