Had lunch there on a Monday (a difficult day for most restaurants). A hot day. Slight misunderstanding as thanks to AI we thought it had river views from the restaurant, which is not the case unless you walk to the bottom of their extensive grounds! Mea Culpa, should have asked them... However, the restaurant is light, cool and with a lovely view if not of the river! There is a large terrace, but we chose to eat indoors for coolness. Overall, very pleasant and though not actually cheap (£130 for two with three glasses of wine, including VAT and service) I would say very good value. All items from the set menu were excellent (inter alia we had one of the best gazpachos I've had in a long time, delicious cod and superb pineapple dessert). Concluding coffee was also good. The sole shortfall was the bread: the rolls had, I think, been heated from frozen and were a tad chewy. However, this was a minor grumble: overall we were very pleased with our discovery - will definitely return.

I had a wonderful spa day at Danesfield House and would highly recommend it. The facilities were lovely, the setting is beautiful, and the whole experience was incredibly relaxing. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Anna and Scarlet on reception were so friendly and attentive, which made the day feel particularly special. The only small suggestion I would make is regarding the lunch. While it was enjoyable, I felt that the menu was not quite in keeping with the healthy, relaxing feel of a spa day. It would be lovely to have some lighter, healthier options available, perhaps with a good choice of fresh salads, vegetables or lighter dishes. That said, this is only a small suggestion. Overall, I had a fantastic day, left feeling completely relaxed and very well looked after, and I would definitely return.

Where do I start? Do not waste your money on an afternoon tea. Two of my daughters have very specific dietary requirements – one is a coeliac and also cannot tolerate diary and the other is gluten free We checked with the restaurant before booking and we were assured it would be no problem. The food served to them was extremely disappointing and frankly quite inedible. The sandwiches were dry – we suspected they had been made and left to stand – and it was a guessing game to try and identify the fillings. The cakes served were clearly shop bought which shows an unbelievable level of laziness on the part of the kitchen staff and had they been sampled by a member of the catering staff before serving they would not have been brought to the table. As for the scone, jam and cream – the scone was a rock hard tea cake served with margarine and the cheapest jam imaginable. There was no cream – by the way you can get dairy free cream from any supermarket and any cook can make an edible gluten and dairy free scone. The jam contained no pieces of fruit and again you could not identify the flavour it was so bland. It is well within the capabilities of any cook let alone a trained chef to serve edible gluten free and dairy free food so I find it incredible they thought the food supplied would be acceptable.The service was not to the standard you would anticipate from a hotel of this standing. They were not busy - only two other tables occupied - .so there is no excuse for the lack of attentiveness or for their lack of response when this was brought to the Resaturant Manager's attention.
