Cambridge Belfry

Firstly, I never usually leave reviews but felt this hotel needed one. The main concern is the lack of attention to the guests at the hotel and their needs. The basics like ensuring areas are free of used glasses and general waste should be a given. The outdoor patio area was well populated due to the nice weather. Every table had used glasses and needed cleaning. Staff brought drinks out but never cleared tables. We sat at a table full of glasses and waste for 45 mins. Its was never cleared. Bear in mind that inside the hotel bar was empty , everyone was outside so no clearing needed inside. The room wasn't ready at 3pm so free drinks vouchers were issued. I would suggest this hotel gives out a lot of free drinks vouchers... As a result of the room not being ready and a spa treatment booked for 3.30, unpacking swimwear in the middle of a busy reception was slightly embarrassing. Reception always seemed under-staffed no matter what time of day and especially at check in and check out resulting in long queues. The room was fine. No issues there. Breakfast had the same issues with clearing tables and cleanliness. There was not one clean table ready for use and we had to ask for one to be readied for us. Guests were continually asking staff for cups, cutlery, clean tables etc while we were there. Junior, inexperienced staff clearly need more guidance and 'managing'. Senior staff seemed oblivious to the needs of the guests and the state of the restaurant. Note that the restaurant isn't big and wasn't particularly busy. The coffee machines were all broken. Food was average. Good bits. Bar staff and the junior staff in the restaurant were smiley and polite. Reception staff also nice although under pressure. Reception staff provide the first impression of the hotel so important to get that right. Spa staff were great as well.

We had such a lovely relaxing mini break here. We stayed in a deluxe room which was a good size, and very quiet. What a treat to have both a bath and separate shower in the bathroom. We enjoyed time in the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, but it was rather busy and there were some waits for more items to be brought out. We still had plenty to eat and enjoyed our breakfast. We would happily return.

The staff were very nice especially Susan in the dining room who was very friendly. No complaints but they should put a bench near the entrance, Kind regards Catherine killeen
