Regency House

Sleep was impossible. There's a pub next door with a lively beer garden. Happy revellers spill out into lane in front of guesthouse and talk, shriek etc until late. At 3am people chatting in park opposite. At 4pm loud thumping on front door -- thumper let in by someone (not staff -- it's a staff-free zone) -- thumper then crashed around until they find their room.

I will review this for what it is - a budget hotel in Cambridge, with a shared bathroom. It is no thrills, but it does the job and I left having a nice sleep. However, there were issues that should be remedied immediately. The room and bathroom was clean and tidy - with new bin bags and clearly it had been thoroughly cleaned beforehand. There was a bottle of water and tea bags / coffee, but to my surprise - no mug. As I noted this when I got back quite late, I didn’t raise this issue. The window was damaged, although I logged this with the staff team via WhatsApp and they were very friendly and got this resolved for me. However, there was extensive duct tape at the top of the window which was most unsightly. The television was very modern with capability to watch Netflix - which I enjoyed! Finally, and sadly - The staff member who was on site was incredibly rude. I asked a question and all I got was silence. I felt a tad silly. Irrespective of type of property or star of property - communication should be an absolute property. I was surprised to see the code for the front door published on this very site. This feels odd and is a safety and security breach - anyone could gain access to the public areas of this hotel. As such, anyone could take a key that is held, insecurely, on the wall by the door. Security at this accommodation is not taken seriously. This is a considerable failure that should be resolved promptly.

One of the worst experiences I have had in over 40 years travelling. Rude unhelpful staff who seemed to think that everything was too much trouble. The least customer friendly hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay at.
