Shelford Lodge

*Upon arrival, no one at reception, self check in with our names viewable with key number so we knew which key was ours. As a lone woman, I don’t think my name & room number being viewable, took into consideration my safety or even my privacy. Imo this is a Data breach for guests. *There was a filtered water machine at reception, however NO beakers supplied *I requested clearly in my booking a down floor bedroom due to arthritis in my legs, this wasn’t acknowledged & was given a room upstairs. I found an elderly man Owner? who I asked if they could honor my request, he went off to check? He didn’t relay back to me if I could have a ground floor room as booked, so had to ask him, and he muttered he couldn’t sort it. No apology * My ‘Private’ shower room was across a hallway, as a woman was highly risky and felt vulnerable, walking in nightwear across a hallway is highly risky. *No soap supplied with sink, no paper towels or towel to dry hands *Filthy shower mat *Room very dated & basic, walls stained & generally not the cleanest for paying guests * Supplied tv I couldn’t get to work, so checked remote, batteries had been removed *Felt completely unsafe and vunerable as a lone female, due to keeping the main entrance front door open and accessible to anyone at all times through the night *Was kept awake most of the night by someone constantly going up and down the stairs very heavy footed & then stamping on the stairs ..was too scared to open my bedroom door to go to my ‘private’ shower room to use the toilet. Imo I beleive the hotel is housing some people with mental health issues. *Didn’t bother with the ‘Free’ breakfast, which was just cereal *I do not recommend staying here, it had an air about it that it was hosting some dubious characters.

Very basic room but had hot shower and comfy bed. Very pleasant nights sleep, so peaceful and quiet. Continental breakfast but not the cleanest of rooms to eat it in. Hostess is so lovely and welcoming

Definitely not safe for a solo female traveller. A staff member texted me (breach of GDPR) and offered services that left me feeling very unsafe and I had to check out. Booking.com were uninterested and offered me a £50 refund, which the accommodation had to approve. I lost over £100.
