If you are realistic with your expectations this hotel is a good place to stay for a visit to Chester. Particularly if you have a Groupon deal as we did. It's clearly an older hotel that would cost a fortune to get back to its best but there are plenty of positives. - really friendly staff who look after you - good self serve breakfast but the kitchen will also cook fresh pancakes, eggs if you ask - full bar and big lounge area with outdoor patio - use of the leisure club is no extra cost. - Decent sized pool, single sex saunas and well equipped gym. There are even 2 squash courts but no steam rooms and the jacuzzi was out of order. -Uber to the center is only £5. -very clean and rooms refreshed every day - big free car park

We nearly booked elsewhere after checking out our room, but decided to stay because we only booked for one night. The hotel would have been lovely in it's day. My husband picked it for it's proximity to Chester centre with its nice sounding name, which was a big mistake. Sadly, the hotel needs a massive investment. It felt so dirty , grubby and tired. We had to clean everything we touched. The spa was terrible with a cloudy pool. No staff anywhere. It's virtually a free for all. The grounds would have been lovely once upon a time, sadly as neglected as the hotel. We slept on top of the bed because we didn't dare sleep on the mattress using our extra clothes as covers. Unfortunately it would be like polishing a t''d for staff (where ever they were).
