This was our fifth stay at the Pheasant and, in many respects, the best.
This place simply keeps improving. We arrived early on a perfect summer’s day and were checked into the Carden room, a large bedroom with bathroom overlooking the rear garden.
After a bracing walk along the Sandstone Trail, we spent a happy hour or so drinking cold cider and admiring the view over the Cheshire Plain.
Dinner was, as usual, excellent. I had a warm Scotch egg, followed by a delicious, spicy chilli con carne.
Breakfast the following morning was, as usual, top-notch: full English, with copious alternatives. The coffee pot was bottomless.
We simply love this place. It is beautiful, well-kept and tranquil. It is our favourite bolthole for a sneaky night away. Best of all are the tremendous, friendly staff, who are extraordinarily welcoming and helpful.
I hesitate to recommend it, because I’m worried too many others will discover it, but I do, without any reservation whatever.
