Boars Head Hotel - Inn

We had booked based on website advertising of an AA 3* hotel with home cooked food and a hearty breakfast. On being shown to our room (which was clean and acceptable), we were advised that as it was a Sunday evening there was no food available and that all midweek breakfasts were be self-serve continental. We had to walk into town in search of food. The breakfast options were pretty poor and unappealing, with some tables and walkways having random clutter on them. On leaving, I expressed our disappointment and said we would have booked elsewhere if we had known that no cooked evening meals and breakfasts were available. I was told that the manager was due in later and was assured that they would ring me later that day. Now, 2 days on, as I suspected, no contact has been made. In its heyday, the hotel was undoubtedly AA 3*, but sadly is now a mere shadow of its former glories and wouldn't regain its rating if inspected.

A really convenient location on a trip we make regularly between Scotland and London. We had a really nice room with a small but very comfortable bed. Simple but really nice pub food and what a great pint that Unicorn is. I have to say I was amused by your web page proclaiming “a hearty breakfast” - toast and jam / marmalade and a yoghurt and a bowl of cereal is neither hearty nor continental. There was milk for tea and a jug with no water and juice in the fridge - but no staff no instructions and no lights either. We were, as I say, comfortable and amused, but won’t be rushing back.

Great pub and lovely food which is honestly cooked and cracking value! Amazing service from Sam who so kindly picked us up from the Travelodge to save walking on a busy road with our dogs! Don’t think we have ever been in a more dog friendly pub! Great choice and lovely real ale!
