Four stays so far on regular business in the area, I’ll be coming back again and again. A truly unique and amazing experience. You walk down the Macclesfield Road and might miss the timber-framed cottage that vines and trees almost hide. You can’t miss it when you know it’s there. This hotel has a cosy Tudor/Stuart aesthetic, clearly a historical building. I stayed in the Merlin suite. The rooms, including the Merlin, are proper suites: a multiple room layout. The Merlin contains a menagerie of decorations and ornaments, laid out with attention to detail. Some of these items may even have heritage back to the Stuart’s. They contribute to the charming character. There’s a (comfortable!) four poster bed, on-theme desk, sofa, lamps, curtains and other details that I’d recommend you check the pictures for. Though the pictures don’t quite do it justice; being there is another experience entirely. Despite the historic, the rooms have modern amenities: ample plug sockets, modern bathroom, cutlery, crockery, kettle, microwave, ironing board and iron, cupboard with coat hangers, whatever you need and expect from a 21st-century hotel. Even little things like good quality shampoo and towels are appreciated. The rooms are meticulously clean and tidy, thanks to the housekeeper, who appears to work every day. The owner, Ian, is always on hand for any questions you might have. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this place more. More than the most worthwhile stay in alderley Edge, it stands on its own merits as a storybook, timeworn cottage with real character, with modern amenities. That’s an experience you may not get somewhere else.

My partner and I had a fantasy/tavern themed wedding. We live in the south Manchester area so I didn't just want a plain hotel room for my bridal party to stay the night before. We decided to rent out all three suites at the Wizard's Thatch, and it was truly a magical stay! It added so much fun and luxury to the evening before. Ian was attentive and sent all the info we needed clearly beforehand, and housekeeping made sure everything was neat and stocked up ready for the second night. It also made a beautiful backdrop for some photod the morning of the wedding :) Would absolutely recommend to anyone and we may come stay again for our anniversary even though we only live a 25min drive away!

If you need to relax , you could simply spend days here apart from going out for meals ! The bed is so comfortable for a change despite the snores we both slept until much later than normal. Very convenient , and the fire station is a great replenishment stop. Wienholts steak pies havent changed in 30 years. Have a great stay.
