Stayed mid-week using a voucher I received for Christmas for our anniversary. The hotel gave us a free bottle of Prosecco and a lovely note on the bed. The room was lovely and the staff were friendly. Would recommend and will def stay again 😁

While the hotel benefits from an excellent location, several operational issues unfortunately detracted from our stay.
Check In Experience : On arrival, the check in process was notably poor. With reception located at the bar, we were required to wait approximately 20 minutes before being attended to, as the receptionist was occupied serving drinks. The receptionist was also taking restaurant bookings (multi tasking at its very best but to the frustration of travellers).
Room Cleanliness and Condition : We stayed in Room 39. The short route from the main building to the room block was heavily soiled with pigeon droppings, which had not been cleaned. The condition of the room itself was below an acceptable standard. The toilet wasn’t clean, and there were multiple items of debris from previous guests lodged between the dressing table and the internal wall. The room was not hoovered at any point during our three night stay and the bed was not remade. It is clear the housekeeping team requires a reminder of the basic cleaning standards expected.
Breakfast Service : Breakfast was consistently problematic. Each morning, guests were left queuing for extended periods while waiting for buffet trays to be replenished. Eggs, hash browns, and sausages were repeatedly unavailable, and on the final morning even white bread for toast had run out. The delays suggested poor communication between the kitchen and front of house teams.
Dinner Service : Although the restaurant was busy, waiting 40 minutes for a bottle of wine and only provided after prompting staff was disappointing.
Checkout : Checkout was again conducted at the bar, requiring us to wait over 20 minutes while bar customers were served first. The couple ahead of us expressed similar concerns about their stay. The staff member did not ask how our visit had been, which we assume was due to embarrassment (same chap that was managing breakfast).
Overall Impression : All staff we encountered were polite and pleasant, but it was evident the hotel is significantly understaffed. The cumulative effect of the above issues unfortunately impacted our enjoyment, and we do not intend to stay again.

Wonderful 3 night stay at the waterhead inn. Beautiful room with a balcony and overlooking the lake. Breakfasts and dinners superb every day. Waterhead pier just a few metres from the pier with trips to bowness and beyond. Bus stop outside the inn where you can travel to grasmere, kendal and Keswick. We didn't use our car once all the time we were there. And to cap it all off the weather for late September was warm and sunny. Final mention for the lovely staff especially the lady at breakfast and Holly who served us in the evening. All in all, we probably spent over £1000 for our 3 night stay, but yes it was worth it and we'll definitely return.
