Rothay Garden Hotel & Riverside Spa

Brilliant holiday…again at RGH. This was our 4th visit and 2nd this year. We first went to this hotel as my husband had become an amputee and they have a fully accessible bedroom, with a view (room 4). We discovered a fantastic hotel. The staff are all so kind, friendly and helpful (Matthew) even helped with a radiator top up!. Marie is amazing, Joanne has joined the team and again brilliant at her job. The whole team appear to enjoy their work which gives a joyful ambiance! The setting at the edge of the noisy part of Grasmere is perfect, stroll through the recreation park to the river walk which goes right through the village to the church, gingerbread shop and Wordsworth grave. Then there is Barneys jigsaw shop……one of the best in UK.! The restaurant is superb, sophisticated, and calming environment to enjoy beautiful food. Mrs Kirkhams cheese soufflé is a winner! We have booked again for next year…room 4 is so rare it goes quickly.

We had an enjoyable stay overall. The room was really spacious, with plenty of seating to relax, and the hotel was quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was also very nice. The location was spot on — just a short walk from the restaurants and amenities in town, while being far enough away to still feel relaxing. However, there were some disappointing aspects. The cleanliness of the spa area was not up to standard, with the same dead flies left in the spa and steam room for three days. We also noticed plaster debris left on the main stairs for several days, which gave the impression that communal areas weren’t being cleaned regularly. Bar service was very slow and limited during our stay. For a four-star hotel, we were also surprised that there was no fridge in the room, as this is something we would normally expect. Overall, a comfortable and relaxing stay in an excellent location, but better attention to cleanliness, service and facilities would make a difference.

We didn't sleep in the hotel but went there to eat frequently. Without a doubt the best place for dinner in Grasmere! Cared for, nice with a local touch, very friendly staff. Top location.
