Grange Hotel

If you are looking for a quiet, hidden, peaceful getaway, then the Grange Hotel certainly meets those requirements. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. I booked a single, so the size of the room was no shock or issue when I got there. The bathroom, on the other hand, is a different story. I wasn't expecting Narnia, but the bathroom should at least look bigger than the wardrobe. It wasn't uncomfortable on the most part; if you find yourself in the same room, then using the toilet might be an issue if you have legs. The beds were comfortable, and apart from the fact that I had a stinking cold on the first night, I slept perfectly fine. The only issue with the room itself was the fact that the only view I had from the window was a wall. If I got bored of that view, then I could tilt my head slightly to the right and look at the other balconies all facing each other. The food was delicious and I highly recommend the ribeye steak, however, if you're going to order that then it's best not to order a starter. When they say chunky chips, they mean CHUNKY, and you'll want to save room for what is possibly one of the best sticky toffee puddings in the country. The pool is fine if you want a good wallow and some peace and quiet. The hot tub isn't it's strongest point I'm afraid. Calling it a hot tub would be a disservice I think. It was more of a tepid bath. The sauna was in perfect working order the first day I used the spa. Unfortunately, that was the day I didn't go in the sauna and on the second day when I did want to try it, it had stopped working. The steam room had no faults other than the fact that you have to be an absolute sadist to enjoy using one of them. How people can spend more than five minutes in there is beyond me. No complaints on the parking. Not sure why, and I'm 99% certain that this is on my part, but my satnav took me up through what it thought was the entrance but turned out to be a dead end and a very tricky reverse 3-point-turn. The lift looked and felt like it was installed in the 1970s. It claimed to have a three person capacity but shook when I was in there alone. I do carry some timber about my person, I won't deny it, but when a lift says that it can carry up to three people, I don't expect to hear creaks or feel like the lift is struggling. To summarise, the hotel served as a perfect retreat from everyday life and would definitely return, I would, however, book a room where the bathroom has a bit more leg-room (literally).

We had an incredible stay at The Grange hotel. 12 friends stayed for 2 nights for our friends 40th birthday. ALL the staff are wonderful and can’t do enough for you. But I have to acknowledge Chloe, Louise and Jo-Anne. They were all helpful, friendly and attentive. Always thinking of our group without us needing to ask. They arranged a large breakfast table every day. Recognised us and asked about our plans. On the Friday we ate in the hotel. They arranged a private dinning room with music, candles and 2 or 3 course meals. Waiters and waitresses were fabulous. Food was great, especially the lamb and steaks. The rooms were very comfortable, beautiful bathroom tiles and fittings. The put us next to each other which was great. We used the spa on the first day and enjoyed it, the hot tub could of been a little warmer but we used the sauna so we didn’t mention it, though I’m sure they would of rectified it. Great base for exploring the south lakes. We climbed Wansfell pike and had superb views of the lakes. Lastly breakfast was delicious, great coffee, lots of options. Full breakfast, pastries etc and a menu card to order pancakes, eggs Benedict and salmon. We ordered the pancakes and they were perfect and fluffy. A friend order some poached eggs and said they were great.

Fabulous experience. We were visiting area for family wedding with my elderly parent and booked two rooms ( one accessible ) . The hotel itself is beautiful, spacious rooms with extremely comfortable beds . The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and kind . Great to have use of the pool too. Would definitely choose again if in area.
