I will start by saying the staff were all nice and friendly.
The door key wouldn't work in room 316, due to a computer glitch, so the assistant manager had to let us in every time.
The room which was a 'Standard Plus' was just the same as a Standard. There was no coffee machine or nice toiletries, so I'm not sure why there was an additional cost, apart from the fact it overlooked the Cricket Ground.
The room was very clean and bed comfortable.
We saw a poster advertising Happy Hour, two drinks for £7 so decided to have a drink in the bar before dinner. We were told that the hotel did not do Happy Hour, despite the posters and notices on the bar!!
Dinner was OK, the smallest pie I have ever eaten.
Breakfast was good apart from the watery orange juice.
In the end, I was glad it was only one night.

Dont expect comfort or sleep 🙃. Bright green light woke me up in the middle of the night about 1am, located above the headboard... something to do with environmental energy control when you are not in the room!!! but I was in the room trying to kip with a huge migraine too 😭. It was on for a number of minutes without any obvious method of switching off.
On enquiry, the staff member next day said these are in all rooms and will randomly go off all the time. She didnt know how to stop it happening. I ended up wrapping multiple layers of fabric over mine to stop it waking me up again. However following morning at 8am we had a fire alarm going off 🤦
I had doors repeatedly slamming around 4am onwards, if you are near the stairs (I was put in room 301) the hotel is poorly designed with no quiet close so be prepared to be constantly be woken up as early as residents or staff decide to stir.
Zero provision to put things away in the room. There were 5 coat hangers and a desk. No shelves or drawers. There are alcoves either side of the bed which were so tiny I couldn't even rest my hardback book on them.
The room was clean and the shower/bathroom exceptional for a budget hotel. I walked to the nearest pub I could find for food - the falcon -and it didn't feel safe through the industrial estate opposite. My room looked out at a busy road and the remains of a demolished building. No armchairs in room, two standard desk type chairs.
Downstairs isn't welcoming to sit either, the lights are bright, tables and chairs uncomfortable with eating area and lounge all in one area so no kind of comfy lounge space to enjoy your evening reading or drawing etc. I had a dinner, it was ok, the sticky toffee pudding was very tasty. The waitress was lovely. . Good car park. Easy access to and from the hotel.

I chose the hotel for its proximity to Derbyshire cricket ground, to which it is adjacent. Nothing to complain about other than slow wifi and a bit of noise from the air-con system. Breakfast options were fine. Room large and well kept. Visitors should be aware that there is little in the immediate area in the way of shops, meaning crossing over the bridge into the city centre, about a ten minutes walk. Or of course getting in a car and going to one of the out of town malls. Two decent pubs nearby, the Peacock and the Essex Arms.
