Horsley Lodge Hotel and Golf Club

After reading the negative reviews our party were a little concerned about our 2 night stay. Our concerns were totally unfounded as we found no fault. The staff are excellent and the food was well cooked, presented and a reasonable price. We all work in the hospitality industry ,so are well positioned to give an honest opinion.

I want to start by saying that I initially decided **not to leave a bad review**, as I felt it was only fair to give the staff an opportunity to address my concerns first. On arrival at Horsley Lodge, I was genuinely impressed. The grounds are absolutely stunning, the building is beautiful and I was very chuffed with my room. Unfortunately, the cracks started to show quite quickly. The room hadn’t been hoovered properly, there was a sticker from a birthday card left behind, spiders and an odd smell. Dinner was another disappointment. My tandoori cod was so salty it was completely inedible. As I was still hungry, I ordered an apple crumble, thinking it was a safe choice, but this was essentially a block of sugar and was also inedible. During the night, I was woken by an awful smell of sewage mixed with old cooking oil, and the mattress had definitely seen better days. By morning, I was so unimpressed with dinner that I decided to skip breakfast altogether and simply have a coffee in my room. Unfortunately, the kettle had a sticky layer on it, while the cups had some sort of purple deposit in the bottom. Needless to say, I decided not to use them and went without breakfast. Despite all of this, I still wasn’t intending to leave a negative review. I thought I would speak to the staff when checking out. However, I had to wait quite some time before someone came to check me out, and they didn’t ask how my stay had been. The interaction was essentially, “All right then, bye.” That lack of customer service was ultimately what prompted me to write this review. It’s a real shame because Horsley Lodge has such beautiful grounds and so much potential. My initial impression was excellent, but the cleanliness, food, room condition and, ultimately, the lack of customer care made my stay a very disappointing one.

Horsley Lodge hosted our annual charity golf day yesterday and it was absolutely brilliant. Laura, Tyler and all of the staff looked after us excellently and the day couldnt have gone better. The course was immaculate and the food was exceptional! Highly recommend Horsley to host your events!
