The Greyhound Hotel

The expectations of staying at this hotel were greater than the experience. Location is good with shops, other eateries all close by. The atmosphere was non existent as soon as we entered. The bar area was empty but our spirits were raised when we saw a pizza oven. “Sorry but we cannot serve pizza or hot food today as there is a gas problem” we were told. When we asked about breakfast for the following morning we were told it would be served as normal, rather confusing? On the booking I had requested a quiet room. We were given a room overlooking the main road. The room was stifling with heat and we could not find any control for the heating. The bed was worn and gave no support, we kept rolling into one another. Our biggest disappointment with the room was the milk satchets provided we’re all past the use by date by nearly 4 weeks. Next morning we went for breakfast. A staff member came to us and pointed to a table with breads and a toaster, cereals and milk. When we asked about hot food we were told the English breakfast was available as standard or vegetarian option, no other options. We were served tea and coffee with a pot of milk. When my wife poured the milk to her cup of tea it curdled straight away. She told the member of staff, they took it away and brought another pot of milk. This also curdled on impact with the tea. Then we were served the breakfast. The fried eggs were black underneath, the beans looked as though they had been held on a hot plate too long, vegetarian sausage was inedible. We have both previously worked in the hospitality sector and can honestly say we cannot find any reason to recommend this place.

Very friendly, clean and comfortable hotel - it’s in need of a little TLC in places but the staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable and the food was excellent, especially the breakfasts which were enormous and delicious! We had our dog with us and the staff were so helpful with him. The hotel is on a very busy road so if you are a light sleeper ear plugs are recommended. We had a lovely three nights and will definitely be returning to explore further

I was attending a local show for work and took customers to the Greyhound on the evening for drinks and a meal. (About 8 of us) Staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. Even arranged someone to take us back to our hotel. Thanks to all the staff 👍
