The Grosvenor Plymouth

I have stayed many times at this hotel. Unfortunately it has gone down hill. No more breakfast and the room maintenance seems to have vanished. The staff are lovely and will to help where they can. The hotel is in a great location for Plymouth town and the Hoe. I understand the hotel is now up for sale which explains much. Fingers crossed it can be turned around.

I stopped for one night, booked a single room and was upgraded on arrival to a double. The reception staff were polite and friendly, and the room was on the third floor at the back. The room was tidy, spotlessly clean and looked freshly decorated. I was not in the room for long: a quick shower (which was hot) and out; I only used it for a sleepover, and I was out and gone before 08:00, and staff were around in the morning. I knew on the day I booked they did not do breakfast, which was not an issue for me when making the booking; I went and had breakfast at a Wetherspoons down the road. In the morning, there was no hot water at all, so no shower was possible, just a flannel wash down in the sink with hot water from the kettle. Not acceptable, and no time or anyone to complain to at the time. Would I stay again? The answer would have to be no; the hot water (or lack of it) and the fact that no breakfast was available. It's a shame, really, because the little I saw of the place, it was tidy and clean, which, to be honest, is all you ask for for a quick stopover.

Beautiful hotel , so close to Plymouth Hoe it was minutes to walk it and could see the ocean from our window . Spotlessly clean, quiet , safe , staff very attentive nothing too much trouble for them at all . We had room 18 1st floor facing the road but very little noise from traffic at all , was worried about getting our cases up the stairs as no lift , travelling on my own with granddaughter I knew I'd never be able to get a suitcase up two flights of stars, but asked at reception and had my case taken up for me . Beds very comfortable, good pillows, good standard of bedding, plenty of towels , wide screen television on wall , kettle , mugs, tea and coffee making items . Small bar in reception for coffee's, cold drinks , alcoholic drink served also , small selection of snacks , all at very reasonable prices . Negatives. Two lovely comfortable chairs in the bay window of our room to sit , watch the sea, read a book , BUT no small table to put anything on, had to balance a hot drink on your knee , nowhere to rest a book whole having a cuppa , so really awkward to do anything really other than sit there . NO toiletries are provided at this hotel at all ( at least none in our room) the website clearly states these are provided, no matter we brought our own, NO soap at all for hand-washing after using the bathroom, never ever stayed anywhere where this wasn't available, no soap dispenser or small bar of soap, nothing, first thing we did after travelling was use the loo as do most people, was shocked to discover no hand washing facilities, went out and bought some pump soap , big no no not to wash hands after using the loo . Carpark to the rear of the building and toilets on way out to the carpark , no need to walk around the building as an entrance leads directly into the reception, very limited parking spaces . No breakfast is served at this hotel , didn't bother us at all but many were expecting it , plenty of eateries within walking distance for a meal , we just had a coffee and biscuit before setting out for a breakfast ( hence why a small table would've been nice) quite a distance to walk for food into Plymouth town so anyone with mobility issues would find it difficult to walk as very uphill ,shame about the breakfast. If a taxi is needed an automatic call button is in reception, press a button and taxi arrives pretty fast . Reception open 8- 10pm , after that the bar area is closed, so no drinks can be purchased, the area is locked up , same as the front and back door leading to the carpark , you'll need your keys to let yourselves in after 10pm , no staff or security onsite after 10pm . Definitely stay here again.
