The Belmont Hotel

A fabulous and very memorable hotel experience, from the moment we arrived right through to our check-out and beyond. We really appreciated the personal approach from both reception and front-of-house staff - being friendly and helpful staff we even received the gift of a surprise Anniversary card (being in Sidmouth to celebrate our 16th Anniversary). We arrived by taxi from Honiton which took about 25 minutes or so. On arrival, we noted the fantastically decorative main entrance, kept tidy and adorned with flowers. Having completed the pre-arrival check-in form, online, our attendance at the reception desk was very swift and were able to book our Dinner table at this point. That table was ours for the duration of our stay (Breakfast and Dinner). When we entered our room we were pleased to see that this was spacious, clean, bright and included plenty of clothes storage space (including a good number of hangers). The bathroom was exceptionally clean on our arrival. Our room was at the front of the hotel where the seafront could easily be seen. One of my favourite aspects of the room was the sound of the seagull bird song in the mornings (we slept with our window open). The bathroom was very spacious, exceptionally clean and very well appointed (including lights on the mirror). On venturing around the hotel, we noted that all communal areas were immaculately kept and decorated in a modern traditional way. The lounge bar area faces out to the front of the hotel and the sea can easily be seen. The seating here is comfortable and spacious. There are bar menus to look through on each table. The immediate gardens, within view of the main dining room, are formed of a neat lawn and (as it was June) bright summer flowering plants. Beyond this, are more natural, wild and shady gardens. There are benches and even a small stream that runs through a part of the gardens. A definite recommendation in terms of a visit and a wander! We did always know that we would be able to use the neighbouring sister hotel’s facilities and made sure we used these on the last day of our stay. We made use of the heated swimming pool at The Victoria, which is branded the Victoria Lido - having asked for guidance about use of the Lido at the Victoria’s reception desk. We thought this a very special outdoor facility; with the look of a Mediterranean hotel poolside. Having dressed for Dinner, we did realise however, that it would have been very useful to have received two pieces of guidance, from the reception staff, to assist with the mealtime procedure. These relate to the presentation of canapés, in the lounge bar, prior to taking a seat at the Dinner table and also the presentation of a hot drink and chocolates immediately after Dinner, also in the lounge bar. We were definitely confused on our first evening of the stay but certainly did not cause us too much of an issue. Each meal we ate at the hotel was very enjoyable and all portion sizes were fair. Our choice of Breakfast was selected, each morning, by saying which items we wanted from the large list. Very satisfying! Our choice of Dinner was selected from the Table D’Hote menu presented to us each evening. My favourite was the Beef Wellington main course. Both bottles of wine were opened at our table and were very enjoyable. Overall, a splendid stay in a fantastic hotel, that emanates great quality and provides attention to detail!

Perfect location, 5star food, service, comfort, and a wonderful location. And it's adults only for staying guests and evenings- a big plus for us.

We visited today for lunch to celebrate my mother’s ‘eighty something’ birthday. She has fond memories of staying at the Belmont and the Victoria with my late father. You were all wonderful. The staff were really attentive and engaging, you reserved us a lovely table, served us a smashing lunch and decorated my mother’s plate with birthday wishes. It had been quite a few years since my mother last visited the Belmont, it was a first visit for my wife and I. We all look forward to a returning in the near future. Thank you all so very much.
