Victoria Hotel

Came as a family. We have stayed at the Victoria many times and have always enjoyed it. The food and the restaurant staff are excellent. We all enjoyed the swimming pool and the choice of bars in the evening. On our last morning there was no hot water in the morning. There was a notice at reception. Not the end of the world, I hope it was sorted out quickly for other guests. This has not put us off. Excellent value. We will return.

On arrival we were greeted whilst on the coach with meal times and a general overview and informed that the lift was out of action and unsure when it would be repaired Luke warm water on 1st morning cold water on 2nd morning nobody on reception until 09.00am had to visit sister hotel to complain and was asked what do you want -hot water would be nice. Apparently the hotel is running on one boiler and this had tripped out. 3rd morning yesd hot water. 4th morning cold water again - receptionist told us it’s our fault we all take showers st same time. She also hid in the managers office the morning we left as she was.not there to take complaints On the plus side the restaurant staff were very good and the food was of good quality Would not go back here agsin

I am a regular visitor to the Victoria Hotel 4 or 5 times per year, but my latest trip was awful, on arrival i was not allowed to park my car in the car park because it was reserved for coaches and i had to park in the Derwent further away from reception. Then on check-in i find out there is no lift as it was out of action and broken down until my final night and i was on the top floor it was not good climbing all of them stairs , So i get to my room and the first thing i find is i only have half a curtain the other half has come away from the top rail and has come down on to the windowsill. Then i find no hot water in my room which was very poor although i have had this many times in other various rooms, as a loyalty club member i think i deserve better than this. Having stayed 4 nights as per usual this trip became a nightmare for me. The one good thing was the Restaurant food, and staff were great as they always are I only hope this last trip is a one-off bad trip, and future trips return to what i expect. As many have said the Victoria Hotel is going to need a big refurbishment job sooner or later.
