Royal Exeter Hotel

Should be called a hostel rather than hotel. Outrageous parking charges. No restaurant (closed for refurb). Check-in via QR code (no human interaction apart from reluctant helper) A horrendous walk and three narrow flights of stairs (hard work when your over 70 with no offer of help.) to get to a large but very tired room with flaking furniture and 30 coats of paint holding the window frames together. And to cap it all a lively trendy bar attached to the hotel!

This could be the most miserable hotel stay I've ever had. I've stayed at hotels with 747's going by 500 feet overhead and gotten better sleep. First of all, it's not just noisy on Friday and Saturday nights, it's noisy every night of the week. And don't believe the posted hours for the nightclub, it goes on well past the time it's supposed to close. For instance, it says 11 PM Sunday through Thursday, that's not true. It goes on much later, and then you've still got the drunken idiots in the street yelling and carrying on after that. On Friday and Saturday nights it goes on until 4 AM. And it's so unbelievably loud! Still 60 dB in the room on the top floor. Yes the windows are open, because they have no air-conditioning and it's August..... so the choices to either be aggravated by the noise or die of heat stroke. I'm still not sure which is worse. Also, the Wi-Fi doesn't work. They will give you the password for the staff Wifi....which also doesn't work above the 1st floor. It seems like they just have one router and that's supposed to cover the entire hotel. Apparently the concept of a repeater is unknown to them. I intended to spend five nights here, but thankfully I only booked the first two because I wasn't sure about the noise. Now I'm scrambling to find somewhere for the next three nights, and the whole thing has me soured on Bournemouth completely. I can't believe that the neighbors around here put up with this...... I looked at the hotel a block away, and even their reviews mentioned the noise from this place. The positives? The staff seem really nice and helpful, and..... OK, that's really the only positive I can come up with.

xtremely tired. Eole place smells damp and I had to ask for someone to spray my room as the stench was awful. Single room felt like a care home. Sink in room instead of bathroom. Old socks on flat roof outside window only thing going forit is the brilliantlocation and private car park! I wouldn't stay again
