The Hermitage Hotel

The Hermitage provides the quality service you would expect from a four star hotel in the best possible location. The staff are excellent and could not do more to enhance your stay. It was unfortunate that the lift was not functioning during our stay, a real issue for us aged and less mobile guests when your room is on the third floor. (56 stairs). One critisism we would make is that the hotel has clearly made decisions on the fittings in the rooms. The result is an absence of drawers in which to place clothing and personal items, not even a drawer beside the bed. It would appear that guests are expected to live out of suitcases and not to unpack! We have stayed at the Hermitage many times (personally going back over 50 years) and this recent policy decor change is not for the better in our view.

On arrival we were given the keys to our room, when we got up the room smelt of damp the paint was peeling of the walls and the bed configuration wasn’t what we had asked for. My wife was shown another room which again was damp. She was shown another room which was acceptable although the bed configuration could not be changed. We went to see a show and on our return decided we would have a quiet drink in the lounge. However there was a coach party in and were extremely loud so we moved to the bar area however the noise was just as bad. A couple complained to us that they had changed the eating time to avoid the noise. My wife went over and asked if they could be a bit quieter which did not go down to well. She felt threatened so the decision was made to leave and go home. I should point it that I have had a brain stem stroke and one of the problems it has left me with is severe mobility problems. We went to reception to inform them of our decision and ask for a refund as we had no meals. This was refused. By this time the lift was out of service so I had 2 flights of stairs to climb an come back down with luggage. At no time was there any offer of help. We have been using this hotel for over 15 years . We have been in touch via phone and email but so far no contact from the hotel.

This is a solid hotel. food was nice and staff were friendly. I only stayed 1 night.
